Does anyone have any idea how the Thai WLs in Geylang subscribe to their handphones? Do they use a monthly subscription like singtel/m1 etc? If so, is it registered under their names? Or must they get a local guy (a sponsor perhaps) to register for them in the local guy's name?

If the Thai WL uses Hi-card, does she require a local guy to register the line for her? Or can it be under her own name? Any idea how the Hi-card system works?

Think most of them uses the Hi-Card. But of cause if got sponsor lagi good lor The last time i bought a Hi-Card(from any phone shop), it stated value of card will expire in 6mths and didn't get to use it very much either.

To register, please bring along any one of the following as form of identification:- NRIC, Malaysian NRIC, Passport, Business Registration certificate., Work Permit, Employment Pass, Government or Representative Office appointment letter.
TopUp Cards are available at all Teleshops, SingPost outlets, Mobil petrol stations and 7-11 outlets (subject to stock availability).
There are no age limit or residency conditions for the purchasing of the hi!Card

From what I understand, only with a fixed line subscription can a person enable GPRS/MMS capability.

Is it possible to receive MMS with a Hi-card type of line?

Hi... Here's the answers for you... Checked with my telco friends...

It is possible for the WLs to get phone lines under their names... All they need to do is take their work permit, have a fixed local address and a cash deposit ready. However, as correctly mentioned previously, the advent of prepaid cards have swayed the direction towards the prepaid system because it provides the anonimity as well as freedom from bills.

As for your second question, yes it is possible for a prepaid card user to access (i.e. send and receive) MMS. All that is needed is an MMS enabled phone and the user actually activates the service...

So, if they have a post-paid phone account, it doesn't mean that there's a sponsor involved... Thai WLs with active handphone accounts have been aplenty even before the advent of prepaid accounts...

Again... Showing off your know-it-all big brother attitude... He merely asked a question about whether a) Thai WLs can apply for a line, b)whether they need somebody to apply for Hi Card (which you answered) and later in a separate post, c) whether prepaid card users are able to send and receive MMS...

Unless I'm blind, I don't remember him asking whether he should sponsor a Thai WL by applying a phone line for her...

The steps are the same as for postpaid users... For Singtel simply dial a *SEND number (I think its *43327, but don't quote me)... No real skills needed there...
