Re: Toffee Chatroom - Everton FC
We need to win the UEFA cup and finish within the Top 4 this season. Hopefully, Liverpool will get knocked out in the CL this week too.

Re: Toffee Chatroom - Everton FC
Everton boss Moyes laments below par form
Everton boss David Moyes admitted most of his players failed to match their own high standards in the disappointing UEFA Cup last-16 2-0 first-leg defeat away to Fiorentina last night. Moyes' team were undone by two quality second-half strikes - from Zdravko Kuzmanovic and then Riccardo Montolivo - and the Scot acknowledged were off the pace throughout the match in Florence. It took until the 69th minute for Fiorentina to turn their supremacy into a lead, Kuzmanovic beating a previously outstanding Tim Howard with a sweetly-struck and expertly-placed right-foot shot from 20 yards. After midfielder Montolivo had capped a slick move with an even better finish in the 82nd minute - volleyed this time, from just inside the area - Everton might have conceded a third too, substitute Mario Alberto Santana sliding his effort just beyond the far post with the outside of his right foot. The Toffees have nonetheless left themselves needing a mighty performance back on their home patch - and Moyes admitted his men just did not reach the standards they have set so far this season in Europe and the Barclays Premier League. 'The performance was not good tonight,' said the Toffees boss. 'I think we didn't start the game and we gave the initiative to Fiorentina. 'We now have a big job to do. They are a good team and on tonight's performance we need to do much better. 'They played well throughout and in all departments. Early on they had a couple of shots against us as a warning. We should have defended their crosses and not given the midfield players the chance to get shots away. 'Some players, in fact the majority, didn't play to their potential. We've another game and hopefully we can do better.' Everton's famed industry never materialised as Fiorentina ran the show from the outset, with veteran forward Christian Vieri the first to make Howard earn his fee. The American goalkeeper went on to produce a series of outstanding saves, and it was harsh on him - if not his team-mates - that the Toffees conceded twice. Moyes' opposite number Cesare Prandelli - who, like Moyes, has steered his team into Champions League contention - said: 'It was a great performance. 'However, I am convinced that next week we will suffer much more. We conceded little and for that I give my compliments to the lads. 'It was difficult as they are a top side. Now we are more convinced of our worth and the recent good results have given us a morale and confidence boost. 'Tonight we played with real desire and with the knowledge that we are a good side. 'They (Everton) are very organised and did well defensively. When the ball was in the middle of the park it was difficult to break them down so the idea was to shoot from outside the area. 'Many of our players are young and are unused to winning. They need to get used to the winning sensation.' |
