this happen to me on my 1st visit to clark last week.

was clearing custom, n came to the check bags section. i was the only 1 there at the moment.

the officer ask: u carrying php $?

Me : yeah less than 10k ( or is it 100k? 4 get liao of the max amt)

officer: show me

me: ok.

as the $ was in my jean n pock a bit small, was digging n abit hard to take out.

than a crowd of passengers came who just cleared the passport n the officer just wave n say go.

just wondering.......was he asking for bribe?? been to so many country custom, 1st time ask to show $.

10K peso is max amount to bring in as peso .. he wanted to 'confiscate' the balance if you had more

bro banana81sg, it happened to me too after passport clearance heading to exit for customs declaration. Was with OC for mountain hiking (postponed due to typhoon haiyan) and the officer asked me, '1st time to philippines' i said 'yes' and he asked again, 'bring any peso more than php10K?' I said 'no'.

he asked again,'two person no php10K?' I replied 'Yes, no 10K peso' and he let us passed. maybe they were targeting 1st timer visit to philippines and not knowing about the regulation.

Latest update:
Tried different sources and called out to others in the region that I know, no luck yet. Also the older sister (my ex GF) is trying to get home to look for her missing young sister and her friend( both about age 20) but I told her not to go yet as everything is a mess with no real supplies reaching everyone in need. She is in Samur and no relief has gotten there yet that I know of as Tacloban is still a bloody mess that the relief efforts are concentrating on at the moment. If she went in now she may not find a way to her village and even if she gets there may not be enough food or water and she become part of the problem and not a solution. She ask me for transport money and some money to help "buy" supplies on black market if she finds anyone in her family (or friends) that need supplies. I have no problems giving her any money she needs but just don't want her getting into trouble trying to get into a disaster area as her safety and health is a concern to me. Will post more if I get any news to report.

Sadly, the answer to your question is Yes--not a true bribe but usually outright theft. Customs at Clark have been known in the past to help themselves to your pesos (even if you had less than 10k on you). It happens once in a while and even to a few chongsters that I know, including a few angmos. Happens More often if there is less people around. One angmo I knew in the past got taken for 1k pesos, tried to object and was "detained" at the airport for over 4hrs while they "investigated". Problem is he was departing and not arriving so had to leave on a flight.
Bottom line is he never got his 1k peso back and lost 4hrs and missed his flight which had no refunds.(note: he was only carrying around 6k peso as he knew the regulations on max peso allowed)
So I guess in a way it's a bribe to keep from being "delayed or detained".

Remember this is the Philippines and extortion and bribes are normal, so always up to you if losing a certain amount is worth the hassles of a much bigger problem.

any ATM cards as long as there is a CIRRUS behind ur card n on the ATM machines... but at first u need to go to the bank n activate ur card for oversea uses....

If you read the posts here, fake viagra/sunglasses sellers, freelancers from roadside not belonging to any bar, little kids along McArthur and the ladyboys who stop you midway while you're bar hopping on Fields all try to pickpocket. Be vigilant and carry less cash and not too many credit cards. Keep some cards and some cash in the hotel safe.

Anyway all these are minor problems. The big major issue is that police could catch you inside the bar, outside on the way to your hotel or inside your hotel room with a girl and put you behind bards for "Human Trafficking". If the police are so daring as to force green tag dancers to provide sexual services while in custody, charging you for a crime you didn't commit is nothing to them. IMHO Angeles City is a bit risky to visit until things calm down.

I beg to differ...juz back from 4 days of partying in AC. Been out to perimeter and back. No issues at all, not saying that all is perfect in AC but a few pointers:

1. leave perimeter bars before 6pm.

2. after 6pm, stick to Fields bars.

3. if u are going to outskirt bars such as Lost in Asia or DET5, juz take a trike to and back, even in the daytime. The 100p is not worth saving.

4. if you are not familiar, stick to Fields bars for now. more expensive but affordable enough fun if you are going for just a few days.

5. be wary about kids/vendors/ppl u dun know on the street..and never stop for anything. the walking street is a bit messy now with road upgrading works being done.

6. TAO exceeds my expectation but is currently the most expensive bar around. DLD cost 300p and SML cost 125p

7. Stay in Fields area. Walkabout hotel is clean and reasonably affordable (1750p)

8. read all the post from experienced guys above this post. always be safe and leave your iphone, note 3 etc in your room safe.

FYI, i was alone most of the time as my kaki all free to go with me. i m typically out from 2pm to 12pm, some days 2am.
