Finally we were back at the Orchard Plaza to collect my car. she: dear, so many camera shop here, you think they can make money? me: those are call "Thai lang Tiam" (slaughter people shop) or Ayam shop she: what thats mean? me: you try go to the shop, they dont even bother to serve you even they got no customer, they also dont sell to archar (Indian tourist) she: even if i want to buy something, they will not serve me me: Their rental here is so expensive, and they are reluctant to sell to local, reason being they dont want to slaughter local, they only aim for tourist. she: but how they slaughter them when Mustaffa and some other big players are selling at a fixed rate. me; haha, here is the trick, take example.. A camera selling at Mustaffa cost $400.00, this people here can sell them at $350 she; tot they suppose to be more expensive? me: here they take out the memory card, the case, the battery and sold them seperately. ..Camera $350, battery $70, memory card $50, case $30 and when the tourist use their credit cards to pay for the bill... it will automatically be charge as US dollars.. or even pounds. Some are even worst becos those salesman do not get basic pay working here.. They are paid on comissions 60% and $40% she: how they do that me: the boss set a basic cost on how much is an item..whatever amount sold above that price will be split 60 - 40 lor..the boss get 60 and the salesman get 40. If tourist buy Video Camcoder, it will be worst..If a tourist chose a branded good model,those that maybe cost 2k plus they will make them test record and than play the vedio that is recorded.. The picture will be distorted when it replay. Then they will ask the customer to try out another brand(cheap china or taiwan stuff) those two three hundred dollars range, test it and the picture appear very clear.. The customer will change their mind to buy the cheaper brand but will be charge at a higher price reason being its an item that perform better. she: how come a branded one can lost out to a cheap brand? me: the trick is at the TV monitor.. its control by another switch on the floor or somewhere, so when they replay, the color or the picture will be distorted lor. she: what if customer found out they kena slaught me: aiyah, there is a way out for them la.. either denied or just compensate the customer with another item.. if the customer chose another expensive item..they will be make to pay the extra differences lor..kena slaught further again. she: no wonder so many shops here...at least they dont cheat local ok liao me: ya, they have their principles too.. she; where you park your car? me: get down to the basement by the lift.
