Re: Any information on Haikou ?
Bro Lemans,
let me help you on some of the questions. 1.) is haikou the airport of hainan island or its a different city ? haikou is the capital of hainan. its a city. the airport is called meilan airport 2.)is there a entertainment centre where u could get all services in one place?if yes how much? and duration. wat kind of services are u looking for. iin my previous posting, i have listed out the usual offerings tat i m aware of. maybe u can be more specific, like r u looking for spa centres like those in macau or ktvs or just whore hse. 3.)wads the rate of short time if pick up at the massage palours or the free lancers hanging ard? and overnite the rate and time frame.? it depends on wat u want. when i look for overnite, i always get them from pple i noe, so i can be sure they dun dare run off with something or i get missing some parts of my body . for overnite, i get either from hair salon which is abt 300, or ktv starting from 1k. if u r looking for 1 shot, massage palour is abt 200, hair salon abt 150 n ktv fr 750. my advice thou, which i think applies anywhere, cheap doesn't mean good. i think its more impt to chiong with a peace of mind, so tat we can get a gd rest after our workout . 4.) any mid range of hotel to reccomend and better way of booking them. u can try WanLiLong Business Hotel at +86-898-68569713. its 4 star, but i feel it can pass off as a 5 star hotel. oso, its one of the newest hotel in haikou n is near to the more happening clubs. the rates i get for the better rooms, the sea-view rooms are RMB258. u can contact the sales manager, Coke (don't ask) or if i am not wrong 刘经理. His hp no is 13976633513. tell him you r a friend of 林先生from singapore and if he can help you reserve a room. Bros, please be responsible and not spoilt my reputation with them as i still wanna stay there on my following trips. 5.)any MUST visit place for fun and the rates? there are hot springs at 暇日海滩, which u can try in the colder months. there r some cultural places of interest which i m not interested in n never visited. e rest u can refer to my previous postings on Massages. 6.)transportation charge from one pt to another?any risks involved? usually its quite ok with the taxis. actually, i even bargain with the 师傅most of the times. e starting fare is RMB10, which is not cheap if u compare it to the rest of China. n u shd be able to get anywhere with the base fare. juz ask where or where RMB10 can? oso, pls read my previous posting on the transport from airport. |

Re: Any information on Haikou ?
warning: this is just a sharing of my experience in haikou/sanya and as I am with my gf, I could not cheong. More for the first-timer so that you can get around without getting conned (I got conned).
(great tip from bro kenho) From Haikou airport, go to the departure hall (2nd storey) to grab a taxi to the Haikou city centre for 30 to 40 RMB. You must bargain with the taxi driver in order to get this price. If you are looking for decent hotels, you can book from elong.com. I think that they have almost all the major hotels and price-wise, rather competitive. Service-wise is excellent. You can call the call-centre and get good service. The downside is that elong.com only covers a small fraction of the hotels available in haikou/sanya. You cannot find budget hotels in elong.com. I am now at sanya. These few days have been raining and made sightseeing difficult. From haikou to sanya, one should take the express bus (80 RMB) which would take 3hrs. You can get a tour package from one of the hotel travel agencies which seems to give you a good deal. For example, I took a 350RMB car package (for 2 persons) that would take you to a few tourist spots enroute sanya but I got ripped off at one of the tourist spots. Hence it is better to take the express bus instead. The tour car that I mentioned above wanted to take me to a few spots but due to heavy rain, I could only spend time on it and that is on the Li/Miao village. Firstly, the driver charged me 80RMB instead of the 60RMB printed on the ticket. When I asked him, he said that the extra 20RMB is for the tour guide. Nvm that, when we entered the village, I was asked to take part in the wedding ceremony, it was pure fun for 49RMB and 10RMB hongbao for my "bride". This was OK. The killer part is this. We were asked to go to a temple and drew a divine lot. We were led separately to a cubicle to have our lot interpreted by a monk. The reading was supposed to be free unless you need to spend some money to burn some joss sticks. Anyway, I blindly followed all procedures such as burning a giant joss-stick and led back to the desk, I was asked to make a donation and the monk will burn joss-sticks for me every day for 1 year. The monk will then tell you that you will need this service for your own good. He will then ask you to write down your particulars and your 3 wishes. Only then will he drop the bomb. The starting price is 999/1999/2999 for individual/family package!!!! When I firmly declined the offer, the monk reluctantly took out another placard which offers 199/299/399. I almost lost my temper. The monk then asked for 99RMB. When I got up to leave, he asked me to donate any amount. I just threw him a 10RMB note. I got cheated because my PRC gf gave her monk 300RMB. I gave her a stern scolding and a hard f**k. Haha. So, be careful when you visit this Li/Miao village. Another time when I got cheated was when I was at sanya city. A trishaw pulled up to us, asking for only 2RMB to take us to eat great seafood. We thought it was a great deal and the trishaw driver looked so honest. And because my gf craved seafood (I dun eat seafood), we took the trishaw. And because both of us are relatively big-sized, we actually gave 5RMB for her hard work. We didn't know we would be conned by her instead. We were led to a open-air seafood restaurant and we picked up some stuff (tiger fish and some prawns). The total bill came up to 375RMB!!! We realised that we were conned when we left the place and saw so many trishaws parked there. Apparently, they were there for supper. We confirmed that we were conned when we asked a taxi driver about this. So at sanya, when an offer is too good to be true, it is probably a scam. For the budget-conscious, I would recommend that you stay at sanya city, at the central bus station area, namely jiefang lu. You can get a decent room at 98RMB and it is gal-friendly. And you have macdonalds, kfc & other decent eating places around. You can stay at yalong bay if you just want rest & relax at the beach, otherwise really nothing to do there and it is quite far away from the city. Eating options are strictly limited and relatively expensive. You can take a tourist bus for about 4 to 15 RMB to various tourist spots such as yalong bay, tianya haijiao, nanshan etc. It is a very comfortable and cheap option compared to the taxi. Take note that it operates only till 6pm, at about 15mins intervals. Suggest you ask your hotel reception for more details. For those craving seafood, there is only one authentic place that you can go. It is called 春园海鲜广场 chun yuan hai xian guang chang (translated as spring garden seafood market). There are a lot of fake similar sounding place. Just take a taxi. Do not take trishaw or private cars. The place is a open-air bazaar, not restaurant. You know you are the right place when you can see at least 2 hundred people inside (I am not kidding). |

Re: Any information on Haikou ?
Bro Marlborolgt,
1. For Budget hotel, u can try 香港城. there's a ktv on the 4th floor. room starts at 80RMB if you get it from mummy 萧玲. her number is 13208986129. but its really budget. for 4 star, u can try 万丽隆商务酒店. as i explained in the previous posting, its new n very comfy n the sea-view room is really worth it at 258RMB. its near the 2 most happening pub at 国贸. 2. No such spa. I explain before that the people there think its very unhygenic. maybe the people there very dirty. the best you cna find is at 新标榜 at 国贸. What they have is individual tubs, but no where near the kind you can find in SZ, BJ or SH. 3. i m very budget concious, so the things i sure do over there is massage. pls see previous postings on massage. food there is so so, u can try the restaurants along 金龙路. its known as 美食一条街,or just get yr girl to bring u around. oso somethime we will get 1 or 2 girls from the salon at abt 9pm bring them to pub, then bring them back. u get ktv feeling, but at salon girl price. if u get the salon girls out early for overnight, they may ask for 450RMB, if not its 300RMB. u can try the salon at 华侨村. there's oso a budget hotel on that road, but i have never tried tat. i maybe in haikou later part of your trip, so hope i can catch up with u then. have fun. ken |

Re: Any information on Haikou ?
bro rapebill, sad to hear of your bad encounters over there. i think tat its generally true throughout china tat at popular tourist destination, u find all tese pple trying to reap us off n ruin our holidays. tat's why 海口 maybe better than sanya, coz its a city rather than a toruist place.
the temple trick i know is everywhere, so next time other bros goes visit any temple in China n people wanna 为你解签 or 算命, just refuse, coz even the chinese pple themselves kanna pressurised to pay, not to say us soft-hearted singaporeans. the li/miao village is quite imfamous. though i have never been there, i read in the local forums that even a lot of chinese kana con by them. dun join tours if it looks rediculously cheap, coz usually u r force to buy something or pay commission. u can learn more abt hainan at www.hainan.net bro rapebill is rite, most of the time its cheaper to take the local transport, which r quite cheap n good. juz check with the hotel where's the bus station to goto to get to your destination. i encounter the trishaw thing not in hainan but at chengdu. the fellow told me bring me to have fun only 2RMB, but he pull me like half way across the town. i smell something wrong n refuse to go in n took a cab n go back hotel to ask them n they refer me to e place i wanna go to. e thing to do with bro is if u smell something wrong, juz refuse at the begining. dun hang ard or juz trust pple blindly. u r there to have fun. i think its better to spend a bit more at the more popular places rather than get yr mood sploit or worst get yrself hurt. happy cheonging. |

I can understand bro rapebill feelings, I didn’t fall into the trap when I last visited the Miao Village as my friends have warned me – but I overheard some rude remarks when I rejected their offer to partake in the “wedding ceremony” - not very nice feeling. BTW, bro kenhol1888 – have you been to Qionghai that is near Boao, about an hour drive to the south of Haikou? That used to be my favourite play-ground in the good old days – even better than Haikou in the good old days when you will be lucky not to get “raped” by walking through HongCheng Lake at night. And the cheapest MM that I have came across in Qionghai was RMB 30 s/t and I am talking about a MM that I would rate as “7” without all the bad habits – but that was 12 years ago. Well, there is a price to pay for progress. I missed the days when they said there must be at least one working MM under each coconut tree on Hainan Island, and I usually left the island on my wobbly legs. |

Re: Any information on Haikou ?
Bro LaoHuangGua,
u bet i did! qionghai is like the haven for man. but i haven't been there for sometime now. for bros who are interested, grab a bus at the North Terminal at Haikou. ticket for the express bus is abt 25RMB and abt an hour's ride. there are numerous budget hotels there starting at 80RMB. qionghai is really small, so u can roam ard on yr own. go for the foot massage at 10RMB or try the body massage at 30RMB where u can touchy e SYT and i mean really young. there's e washy breast massage + fk at some of the palour which is abt 180RMB. or get a girl from the salon for overnite at 300RMB. better yet, get 2 girls out. but remember to try out the wild life steamboat there first to give u tat extra boast! i heard tat there's a ktv set up by some malaysians there, but for ktv action, my advice is to stick to haikou. qionghai is really a budget man's haven. have fun! |

Sanya Sheraton was where they held Miss World contests two years in a roll. But Yalong Bay is really too far away – no action and everything is expensive – only good if you are bringing your g/f. Dadonghai area is my preference although the beach is not as nice as Yalong Bay. |
