I was just walking around a few shopping centers recently and I just cannot comprehend the economy. And when I cannot understand it, I am sure we are in trouble. Here is a few interesting observations。

Borders. Go to Wheelock and you will notice that the place is now taken over by JL. For sometime, when I drive by that place on my way home, I would notice that it really is pitiful that a happening place has gone to the dogs.

Walk down Orchard Road on a weekend or a friday night, like tonight and it is scary that there is hardly anyone in comparison to 10 years ago where Marriott used to be packed jammed with people walking.

Go to any of the neighborhood malls and see the crowd. It is scary. I feel really amused that business owners are paying so much for such little crowd.

It is not that there are no crowds in Singapore. Go take a look at F1 today. There is a crowd there. So really, with so many more people in SG, the way I look at the economy in general, it suxs big time.

MNCs look at bottom line just like any other business. We are super expensive in salaries. And it will keep getting worse. IE. Workers expect salary increase each year. Bosses have hard time keeping up with eroding profits.

A lot of people in the markets reckon we are already in recession, regardless of what the propaganda spreading media says. The government wants to promote confidence in our economy and social stability that's their bottom line. That's why what's announced via the news and what we see doesn't add up. Just my 2 cents.

Recent Comex PC show at Suntec was a lot less crowded compared to previous year's and yet they came out with a statement declaring bigger n more takings..? I couldn't believe my eyes when i saw it printed in our ST.
