Bro, I agree w you. It was published in the papers that the AV chief said 2010 they cancelled 50 HC licences. What does that mean? I believe those 50 include many TNs and beauty parlours.

Of course not. Why would anyone write something like that in a public forum knowing the laws? Why write how you went to a club and broke the law with someone who most likely is on a social visit pass but working illegally and doing illegal things?

I am positive vice has their own things worked out...but when people throw it in their faces that at such and such club, we break the law and we post it publicly...how stupid do people really want to be by basically daring the AV to show up there?

You might as well write how you cheat on your wife or GF, and state her name-tempt her to investigate like how you tempt AV.

Like I said, there was a time we explored on our own or with a few friends, and when we found places, we were hush hush about it to keep it alive as long as we possibly could.

guess bro CIP have a good pt here abt the cancellation of licences. but those HCs mentioned closed here are the established ones. why are they targetted? surely the authorities muz have done their homework to come out with reasons to deny these HCs their licences?

the hc scene has survived since the 80s, and actually the way they operate is much lower-profile than say the TN and the MP scene which have been sprouting all over the place, especially with their WLs who are in full view to people walking past those shops. so why all of a sudden, all the old dames are closing one by one, you ask?

my 2 cents are, its probably a way for the authorities to clean out the slate and re-regulate the whole industry. there has been talk in the past year about regulatory changes for hcs...such as all hc masseuses being required to go for classes and have certs....etc

i'm guessing instead of "upgrading," the authorities might have decided to go for "en bloc redevelopment." of course at this time, there's no sign as to whether there will be any "redevelopment" at all, but men's health spas are pretty much a quintessential part of the leisure/entertainment industry in Asia so i'm pretty sure they have to be allowed to come back in some way or another.

with regards to how the hcs are targeted, i'm guessing it's a matter of profile. if everyone's talking and raving about a place here, and the authorities are looking for places to start closing down anyway, naturally they go for the ones that have a higher profile.

anyway the hc scene is history for now. it's sad. i was going out with a girl who worked in one of the major hcs, and we had to split because she was jobless and was so stressed out by the industry movements. i was never one for the tns/mps. imo, those are the ones that the av should be targetting, if anything since they do operate rather openly and can create a rather sleazy impression to the locales where they set up shop. hcs on the other hand, are nondescript and are like anchor tenants to some of the malls. they are actually a rather good place to relax, have a soak in a hot pool, have a sauna and some food. just lounging and watching tv, in addtion to the massage of course. let's just hope for the best, and from now on just tone down on the colorful reports lest it makes things seem like it's going out of hand which motivates all these undesirable actions by the authorities.

I have read all the posts here with interest. It is interesting that many bros here brought up what they thought are the causes of HC closure.

Bros brought up many valid points but I think the main reasons for HC closure is Raid. Why many raids?

Very simple. The Singapore Police is under a lot of pressure from the very-top to help the SPA industry to build its name as a clean, luxury and vibrant industry. Because many tourists or even locals whom unknowingly visit HCs thinking they are the SPA equivalent ended up discovered the hanky panky things going on there.

More importantly is that the SPA operators have been lobbying the government to regulate the HCs such that it offers strictly massage so that people don't look at SPA industry being 'dirty'. The operator is using foreign countries' SPA outlets to compare against HCs here.

Government on another hand also see tremendous opportunities in SPA industry to bring in tourist dollars to complement IRs, F1 and other tourism activities. So the government believe HCs should be regulated more strictly so as to protect the SPA industry. Imagine some tourists whom genuinely interested in spa for relaxation ended up at HCs. They either got chased away at the reception or being offered special services by the gals. A few bad incidents when reported will destroy the whole industry.

The regulation of HCs has been mentioned in the press and by government officials or police a few times in the past 3 or 4 years - if you read papers/ watched news. Maybe only recently they have the resources to execute it more thoroughly.

So in the name of tourist dollars, the government officials always work very hard. It is not that they don't know hanky panky that have been going on in HCs for years but then there is no spa industry at all. Now there is spa industry.

Agree with bros here that raids are the reason HC's are closing.

Maybe they need two categories of spa - spa and spa-xxx. Two different licensing categories. Then nobody will be confused. But because authorities don't like talk about these issues openly it just will become HC massage only and legal brothels as the legal options. In US massage places have mandatory form to sign saying you are there only for massage and only massage is offered. They even send in female AV to bait customers and proecute the customers. So you can see how extreme the situation can get if the govt. is really serious. But I hope common sense will prevail and all this is just for the election.

First article is very damaging, could be written by some opp. To prove it wrong and save face, I guess big boss would order av to work extra hard on those places.

I think you're close to the mark, but I suspect it's not the spa industry which represents a very small aspect of the economy here, and a very troubled one.. look at some of the problems of spas closing down suddenly etc.

I think the government is putting pressure on SPF but I think it has more to do with election jitters than anything else.. cleaning up foreigners who are here working in jobs they are not supposed to is seen as a way to address many concerns about the influx of foreigners here.

I suspect after elections things will calm down. This happened during the run up to the last election too. After all, I think the more SPF raids, arrests and deports, the more they have to report numbers of illegal workers in SG. That number will not reflect well on them.

I won't be surprised if the government is putting a lot of pressure because for the first time in its history, it might face true competition and must give the impression of cleaning up crime (including illegal foreigners) or voters won't be happy.
