in other countries changing the constitution is like a big hoohaa, cos it represent the soul or the basic foundation of a nation. for us its like changing underwear as according to the will of those silly elitists.

One thing the gov has done is to broadcast/advert all the schemes/and benefits they have with greater intensity, can see it almost everyone on main stream media.

Spending billions of taxpayers money doing marketing, sales talk and promoting for PAP will not help if majority of citizens do not feel the impact of GDP growth and change in policies. Why only change after BE2013? Budget for PA alone is $400 million plus. Dont make sense at all. PAP should foot its own bills instead of using taxpayers money for party use. It will reduce cost of government and maybe can abolish GST.

Re: Say “NO” To Singapore Transport Fare Increase

Wow this thread is still actively discussed; not been reading this thread because there was some ugly spats (between ‘BMW69’ vs some others then later “curry mutu man”) going on here (too personal and not within the topic).

I guess growing up in a generation when I witness the construction of MRT but never really used it until I was in my university days. I can safely comment how important it is to our transport network, it was convenient and very reliable until recently. I give my respect to our Transport Minister then the late Mr. Ong Teng Cheong for introducing it despite all the objections raised back then by both his own party members (the chief included, I remember him saying that buses were sufficient) and opposition members as the cost was astronomical, although I was only a small boy of about 10, it left an impression on me because before the debate:
1) I actually met Mr. Ong in Chinatown market he was eating there
2) A lot of people came up to chat to him and he was humbled in his manners and all

To me, he was such a nice person but everyone made him look bad that day in parliament. I support PAP since young (probably since our HDB was in the strongest PAP stronghold, 3 generations of my family never have to vote), and it was people like Mr. Ong among others whom reminded me that I was right to do so.

However, looking at the situation now, it is pretty grim (although it has been almost a decade since I have seriously used Public Transport). I have no issue with Public Transport Companies to make a decent profit (say 10-12%) per annum but:
- Rising fares to ensure this profit level (or to make more), shouldn’t they also try cost cutting (the right kind, not doing away with maintenance)??
- Cost is high from what? COE?
- Public Transport Companies need to take care of shareholders (well the biggest is Temasek)?

I really hope the Transport Ministry can get their act right; and to a larger extend the whole party too.

Sorry to be whining away in CNY, just airing my frustrations.

Happy year of the horse to all.

Don't misunderstand me. I'm not a PAP supporter. But if you vote them out, are the oppositions capable of running a government?

The more ideal situation is for the oppositions to claim more seats so that the PAP won't have the majority and unable to automatically pass changes in Parliament.

Comments?
Well just to be neutral, here's my view as PAP supporter hahahaha , democracy is a good system if one party is not performing give others a chance.

I understand you are worry about the price to pay, think Taiwan during Chen Shui-Bian era and US under George W Bush.

If the majority is willing to try, why not? PAP was the opposition when it started, WP under the late David Marshall was the Govt then. The people then gave PAP a chance, and the WP led Govt went into history. If today PAP need to go into history then let it be.

。玩完 了。

Thank kuasimi for pointing out the inaccuracy in my post, yes did a double check online, the party was called Labour Front, which David Marshall quit (or forced out?) and later on started WP with quite a few of his comrades from Labour Front? Sorry it has been about 20 years since I studied this.

My humble 2 points to you, appreciate that you clarified this.
