I also read that 3 days ago, there's heavy fighting in the border town of kokang, the border between Myanmar and Yunnan.

I've become to like Kunming more and more as can have easy access to shady cowboy towns in nearby countries.

Economical Land Transportation Options

Via Guangzhou, China

Using the high speed train/coach/private car combination is the most economical by far to head to all the shady cowboy border towns.

Guangzhou South Station 广州南站 <-> Kunming South Station 昆明南站
Travel Duration: 6 Hours, 15 Minutes
Ticket Cost: ¥480 one way

From Kunming City take a coach/private car to your final destination.

When I'm old I may retire in Kunming.
Can have easy access to pussies of 4 different nationalities.

Mohan Port 磨憨口岸/Boten

Myanmar

Hi, I've never been to Langson. But in Sihanouk we met a China man who tell us there r many happening cowboy towns in Yunnan n guangxi.

For sure by the end of this yr, I and my friend target to go all the cowboy towns mentioned above.

Personally, as a Singaporean, and having already experienced hot seasons the whole year in spore, I prefer to visit these cowboy towns during the cold seasons so as to get the "Shangrila magical feel".

About 7 mths ago, I and my friend failed to goto Mongla via Chiang rai, maesai because the immigration officer in tachiliek don't allow us to go further then tachiliek citing war as the reason.

Tomorrow 31 July 2017, this same friend will fly to kunming and then from here will travel to xishuangbana and then to Mongla. He's traveling alone and this is his maiden trip to Mongla.

He bought the airfare (Thai airway) from peoples park which cost sg$400 one way from SG to Kunming. Hope he succeed to enter Mongla so that I can post here d latest happenings about Mongla.

After searching the internet, I realize that its cheaper to go xishuangbanna via luang prabang (Laos).

AirAsia KL to luang prabang about sg$60. Then from luang prabang take bus to border, then to mohan to change another bus to xishuangbanna. This route only suitable for backpackers. From xishuangbanna follow tour group or casino junkards to mongla.

Thanks for d encouragement. As soon as my friend , also a new senior citizen, whatsApp me with pictures, I will post here. I guess he shld be reaching Kunming soon. He took off from changi, Thai airway this morning 7.45am, will transit 2 hrs in bangkok then proceed to Kunming.

From Kunming, then he will book a flight to xishangbanna.
