since you asked.. then here goes... your thai peers may/may not concur, but that up to individuals.

my thai peers who plan on tying the knot (with non (ex)WL/FL), some dont bother with the sin-sot. simply proceed with the customary proceedings & call it a day.

there's also some luckier ones (also non (ex)WL/FL), who've married farang, and the sin-sot is way beyond the THB0.5M sum, complete with extravagant wedding banquet & honeymoon trip.

explanation given; the sin-sot figure was previously used as an indication of the families' social/financial standings, but in todays context... majority are simply working class, so they cant be bothered with the sin-sot.

but for some families, its imperitive & the sum should not be too humble, and proven to be quite a hassle (sometimes causing rifts between the prospecting in-laws) - which also explains why some thai couples these days, choose to co-habit but not get married.
