I'm not here to discredit or accuse anyone of anything. My initial reaction was directed towards the way in which you presented your case.

However you have made a clear statement in your last post that I have to agree with here.

Yes, the chances of it happening is extremely remote at best. I'm in no position of comment on whether the patient in question did contracted HIV and/or whether she developed AIDS. However I do not rule out the possibility and stated so in my postings.

- The granny's HIV status was communicated directly to me by the doctor. You need to differentiate between HIV and AIDS. She died from a lung infection but has yet to develop full-blown AIDS.

I understand what you are talking of. However if a diagnosis has been made regarding the HIV status of the patient. It wouldn't matter whether the cause of death is by AIDS or not.

The trouble with HIV is the stigma.

You are right on this one. However, the doctor's know better, and such mishaps needs to be duly reported to all pertinent authorities and a thorough investigation instituted to prevent future incidents from happening. We learnt it the hard way when China tried to cover-up the impending SARS epidemic.

Anyone may do a formal complaint to the proper authorities with the condition of anonymity. I see no reason if someone other than the family member who knows the whole case to report it to the authorities.

This debate does nothing productive, and I really hope that you do the right thing (if you strongly feel for the patient and are certain about the situation). Be responsible.
