Re: Govt to ban alcohol consumption in public. Your views?
This is why we can't have nice things...
At least follow UK have designated areas that can or cannot drink instead of blanket policy. Just like Geylang, confine the potential problem to one area not the whole island....gov't pay so much but cannot think. Go be ceo somewhere goddamn else. |

Re: Govt to ban alcohol consumption in public. Your views?
They have taken our jobs and schools and gave it to foreign trash. The newest and most aggressive of the lot are the Peenoys. They allow outsiders to use our Safra clubhouse when it was "supposed to be for NS men and family".
They now take away our right to drink when "we" are not at fault. Be prepared to have each and every right taken away. They use an Iron Fist when you are a son of Singapore but a velvet glove when one are not. |

Re: Govt to ban alcohol consumption in public. Your views?
Well look at it this way....
Singaporeans won't be drinking in open spaces anyway. Those who drink in the open are mainly the FTs who will picnic in parks and zoos. So in a way I feel this law is targeted at them. But the govt has to specify what it means in public. If I'm having a BBQ at east coast and normally beer is my choice of drink, does that mean I can't enjoy beer while I'm BBQ-ing? So before they shoot out thru their mouth and the wind blows it back into their faces, please think whether this law can improve any chances of GE leh. |

Eh Bro I think u can drink in the EAST COAST BBQ. Cause if not wrong u must pay to book the facility. IF u pay meaning u temporary own it. It is ur right to use it and not the public. If it is considered public area, why the public cannot bbq there without paying. So within the time frame u book the pit area, it is owned by u not public. So I think as long as u pay the government u can drink in that area. Just like clubs and coffee shops they got pay tax and license. |

This policy I have mixed feelings, I dun like the fact that they never even ask how do we feel about it before removing our human rights. In the first place, it is not SINGAPOREAN fault for the riot. Dun classify those drinking alcohol as those will cause riots. However, I also agree that they should ban those drinking outside ZOUK before going into ZOUK. Look, pple open club is to earn money. U are using pple facility but not letting them earn. Worse, some even dun pay entry fees by going in early thru the Citibank card. Why I am disagreeable on these pple: 1) If the club dun earn, they will close down and I have less one hot spot to go 2) Too many pple go in by Citibank card free and not spending will make other card holders look like cheapskate. Sometimes when I go with a lady not opening sofa or table, I can use the card to go in. Dun wanna call the manager to give chops for this small case. However, I do spend money there, still I feel they think I'm there to parasite them. 3) Too many youngsters after getting high and going in will make the club crowd standard lower. Dun want too many young guys who spend nothing and crowding the whole dance floor looking for opportunities. Somemore, they are young, tends to fight and create troubles. 4) The crowd standard drop will also affect us. The girls will think the guys there are young, desperate, cheapo and trouble making. If the girls also dun come (nowadays lesser) then the club will be less attractive and might close down. I hope zouk will improve after this policy by filtering out these pple. However, zouk still can't prevent them from drinking at homes la. However, things that can be done are: 1) Limit the credit card entry to maybe SIgnature card, worldwide platinum or so. Dun any sub card (500 in bank can liao) also can go in. 2) Remove the entry fee but set a minimum spending of 60 dollars to go in. Meaning, order first and take ur drinks later. I dun like pay entry fee and get two house pours as I dun like house pours. Dun mind they up the minimum spending and let us choose the drinks. 3) Faster queue for those opening bottles with no bookings. This will ensure, everyone spends there haha and enjoy the party... YEAH>>>> |

However, I think that this law will not be passed in the end/ not enforced. I'm sure the government is aware that the GE is coming up in 2016.

Re: Govt to ban alcohol consumption in public. Your views?
A Malaysian colleague believe, the only method to discourage drinking is to reduce numbers of PRC beer girls. He ask how come they could be employed because they dont seems to be full timer.
By the way men do drink at void deck. Sometimes it becomes problematic after downing few cans. I will support this law. |

Re: Govt to ban alcohol consumption in public. Your views?
Update: Straits Times surveyed 9,000 readers. 8 out of 10 oppose it. All the MPs seem to support it or are forced to support it.
Shows you the disconnect. 2016 will be interesting. |
