Hi bro,
Whether you'll get used to staying here depends on how well your adaptabilty are...it takes sometime to get used to it maybe 6 months or less or more depending on individual.
For me i like to have a change of environment and experience. I only got 1 life, make the most of it. Everything is a learning process.
I think there are some communities or association out there where u can join but I do not have the details. For examples, some of the samsters here have manage to create a community among themselves.

Hi Brother,

There is a Singapore Association in Shanghai. You may call the SIngapore Consulate in Shanghai, and they will direct you where and how to contact them. I have been in Shanghai for the past six years (not staying there, but extremely frequent trips) with 1 year visa, 60 days stay and multiple entries, and am now quite used to the life there. What I did was to seek Singaproeans's local support. There are many groups.

For you information, I have never joined the Singapore Association because I want to avoid big bosses and civil servants.

Dear Bro,

We are all Singaporeans having to work overseas. It is tough. I have been in China for more than 10 years, and understand and treasure the support of fellow countrymen (who are not out to take benefits from others). Do PM me once you are settled in Shanghai. Do come to this thread, the brothers here are generally very friendly and helpful, as you have seen from the number of replies you received.

It is true that we need to 出外靠朋友 but 朋友有很多种。Some groups offer Business networking opportunites, some groups offer none adaptive Singaporeans to remain connected to our "roots", some groups are just for entertainment (or cheonging) purposes while others provide occasional comfort when the going gets tough.

One of the brother mentioned that if he wanted to mix around only with Singaporeans, he'd better off staying in Singapore, which is very true. We are overseas for a reason, be it for family, for career, for aspirations, to escape "whatever not suitable to be mentioned" or what have you not and therefore the kind of groups that will serve each purpose best will differ.

China is not a "friendly" place, so try not to take anything for granted lest one does not mind being constantly taken for rides. It is easy to loose focus and direction with ample temptations available at all times.

Personally, I would prefer just to be in a small group of good friends as I find that most comforting. Too big a group will result in too many difference in personalities, which requires different ways of "dealing" with and that can become rather tiring, especially when we have to constantly "deal" with a multitude of Chinese waiting in line to skin us alive. But then again, that's probably just my view and I do not speak for all other borthers in the Forum or in China for that matter.

Anyway, a very warm welcome to all brothers coming to Shanghai or China. Have fun and always be careful.

We have been seeing a lot of our own taking advantage of others. We ourselves have been victims on many occasions.
Anyway we could get a bunch of serious Singaporean businessmen together and take a look at the various projects we have on hand and move in together? You chair the group while I could get the various government's projects approval. Our guys could get the job done!

I thank you all for giving your valuable experiences information about living in SHA. I appreciate all your open arms in accepting a new comer to SHA. I will come back to you guys again for more guidance once I am more settle down in SHA. I am arriving on the 18 Mar.

Since I am traveling in and out of China frequently during my stay in SHA, I am taking nongho's advise of not registering with the local authority for temporary residence permit.

Actually, I have two numbers in my handphone, both are with Name ___Shanghai. Cannot remember which one. I shalll call both and see who is the right one. Must be the age. I think one belongs to the Sichuan girl during our first outing, and the other one is the MM that you are interested. I shall call them when I am in China this weekend (too bad, in Xian... My home coming will be next mid next week. Can't wait to go back Shanghai to smell the puxi's I have missed since my departure. Understand that Bro PTR will be there Mar 15-19...I should be back by them...As said, it would be nice if it is just a session without the lust part...Are you guys going to list the time, date and location in the forum?
