Malaysian Ringgit rate update

Did you know that since this thread started in 2004, it was RM220.50 for S$100 and it gradually climbed in Singaporeans' favour to RM244.5 for S$100? It was RM100 to S$100 originally when I was a boy.

Last time before the asian currency crisis caused by soros in year 1997, the rate was S$100 to RM170. I can remember because i take sbs bus 170 across the causeway and exchange rate also rm 170. But after the crisis, the exchange rate become S$100 to RM205-230 fluctuating. Sing dollars remain stable due to hugh foreign reserve.

The recent weakening of the ringgit could be due to high inflation of the ringgit, rumours said that it could reach 250 in the near future.

From my experience, good exchange rate for the ringgit in singapore is at raffles place arcade level 2 or people's park centre level 1 where there is a long queue.

Over in Jb at holiday plaza ground floor chinese money changer where they will give you special rate if you change alot say 1k.

When any one has posted a location e.g. Bukit I----, please say whether it is in Singapore or Malaysia.

Has any one visited a small money changer and was told a Malaysian Ringgit to Singapore Dollar and vice versa exchange rate in the morning. This exchange rate was not posted on their display panel. I mentally noted it down. In the afternoon on the same day, I went with my money to this money changer and was told another not so attractive exchange rate making me 'rugi' (lose) S$1 for every S$100 exchanged. I did not write down the morning's exchange rate so I do not want to post which and where was the money changer I dealt with. I will never RTE (return to exchange) money with this money changer again. Is it possible that the exchange rate can fluctuate after about 5 hours? Or was the money changer cheating me? Any one who has experienced such things are welcome to post it here.

Possible. Cos their exchange rate is based on amount from the main bank.
If bank open n inform of them of any changes, they will adjust accordingly.
That's why the exchange rate will not vary more than a certain %.

Eg Bank say today is 2.44 for $1, the money changers can fix their rate from 2.43~2.45 etc....

Note:
Exact organisation i not sure, may not be bank. But for us is MAS.

Went to Sun plaza and changed on tuesday night ..the rate was 244.7....The money changer is just beside Old chang kee curry puff...guess this is the best rate I had changed so far.
