Liverpool to meet Chelsea in the semi-finals of a major cup competition for the 3rd year running. CL in 2005, FA Cup in 2006 and again CL in 2007. Went on to win the respective cups in 2005 and 2006. Could also be a repeat of the same teams in the final with AC Milan currently leading 2-0 against Bayern Munich away. A repeat of the glory in CL 2005?

I seriously hope so too ... 'coz meeting Chelsea in the semis will be extremely tough, on 2 counts:
1) they will be bent on "revenge" wrt Garcia's "did it cross the line or not"
2) they will be trying their darnednest to win the CL as farewell gift for Mourinho

Along the same lines, I was hoping Bayern would get rid of Milan too ... so that it's more favourable for the Reds, on 3 counts:
1) Bayern would be bent on "revenge" wrt 1999's last-minute debacle
2) Milan would be bent on "revenge" wrt 2005's "comeback of the century"

Lastly, I dun fancy playing Manure in the CL finals ... simply becoz they've a big psychological advantage of being the only team who did the double against us in the league this season, although that was achieved with a very very big stroke of luck!!

But then again, who said life was gonna be just a plain bed of roses??

Yep. I agree about the "revenge" mindset the oppositions will have. Chelsea and AC Milan would give it ALL to get one over us for 2005. Was hoping for a Valencia semi-final and a Bayern Munich final to give the games a little freshness.

And I think Bayern, however, would find it tough against Man United in the semis, if they did get through, as they had a measure of revenge for their 1999 defeat by beating Man United in the quater-finals enroute to their 2001 CL victory. So it's kinda like Man U's turn to have their revenge?

Anyway, whoever we meet, it won't be easy. And the harder the teams we beat, the more sense of achievement the team and fans will have. So bring them on!

Chelsea hasn't been very impressive even though Shev is scoring goals. Further, they will be torn between FA Cup, CL and EPL. So, meeting them in the semis may not be that jia-lat after all.

Nice to see some kakis in here at this hour. So job done ,fail to see more goals coming from us as there is lack of urgency. Crouch should have a brace if he didn't miss that sitter. Pennant has been threatening from the right side & Momo is a much more better player with some pressures taking off in this 2nd leg game.
I wish to meet AC & beat them again in Athens with whatever scoreline,then who dares to say our win in Istanbul was only a fluke.

I don't think there's a Pool player who won't fancy playing the Scum in the final, whatever the results in the Premier League. When it comes to the rivalry, form and confidence will go right out of the window.

Personally, I have always looked forward to meeting them in the CL. I think it will be the right game for us

Yah, was kinda bored but I guess it was to be expected. Saw Gerrard warming up, tot he will be coming on to add to the urgency.

I guess Crouch, for all his goals recently, will continue to miss sitters ...... somehow it is not easy for him to score easy goals. Must do it the difficult way.

Pennant is getting better and better. A pity he didn't score. Somemore double saved.

Me too. That Istanbul was not a fluke. We really fought back really really hard back then. We may have been a wee bit lucky but it was certainly not a fluke. We had some quality back then. But this time, our quality is better and we will be able to beat AC or MU.

basically a game played without any pressure. would have been different if PSV scored with the header early on... heng ah!!!

but very sad to see fowler come on and then show that his touch and speed has already long deserted him. couldnt hold on to the ball and didnt really make use of the ball well. but he made an unselfish assist to crouch's goal. guess it is really time for him to go... but forever thankful for the memories...

pennant played really well again... agree that he should have scored though. the players cant miss such chances if they present themselves in the semis against chelsea...

Agreed with you that Fowler touches and speed are gone, he will always be GOD to pool fans, and personally I feel he is a better scorer then a certain ex-galatico.......
