Since we are on the subject - freeloaders are actually a relatively minor problem; yeah, happens too often with quite sickening regularity but these free-loaders are usually very easily identified and would only be a one-off bother. IMHO, a more serious problem are those individuals who are so accomplished at what they do as a profession, that trusting mongers do not even realize when these guys pump up bills and then get massive rebates from such. Yeah, great drinking buddy - but watch out when anybody gets too friendly too soon!

And then are the Scammers - those who actually choose such a vocation as well as those who found themselves at wit's end and thus resort to such. I've heard of/experienced my own horror story and lost actual money (not just over-charges) but what galled me at least a couple times was when these low-lives used my name/friendship with others to scam my friends.

I just want to suggest/remind you to be more careful and vet strangers you meet over the internet closely - especially on mongering sites. There is usually no free lunch and whilst I do know that there ARE many honest, altruistic people on the web as elsewhere, there are probably an equal amount of skillful and opportunistic vultures ready to pounce on the usual good bonhomie associated with mongering forays.
Mind you though, I HAVE also met and made great friendship with quite a few guys via the internet in the past, so....!

I hope nobody misunderstand and/or take offense - and sorry if you are offended; just my suggestion and reminder. Peace!

Manager Gigi sent me twenty over WeChat messages to try to apologize and explain how to cut costs for us in future. The most effective way is to bring your first bottle of hard liquor in and she will DISCREETLY waive the corkage charges of that.
During our third DS outing, a Canadian Vietnamese bro brought three bottles of hard liquor from the HKIA. He wanted to open all three but he was the only hard liquor drinker (the rest seven of us prefer beer)
Again this wasn't Gigi's room as I pre-ordered this from my 山东 girls' manager and we were billed 600rmb for the first bottle corkage charge. Our total bill was 3870rmb
Imagine our end bill if all three bottles were opened.


I'm fairly new to KTV cheonging (only started 18months ago) and so far most of my buddies are beer drinkers. We seldom encounter the tricky business of estimating bill costs with hard liquor, like to hear from more experienced bros about this

You know me heh I hate drinking beer. A set of 3 chivas 12 in said ktv is 1888 that's with 3 bottles and some mixer thrown in. Chivas is entry level for hard liquor.

For our trip with vertu, fgg and another bro. We are mainly hl drinkers. On avg we bring like 1-2 bottles of duty free per session for our own consumption, and then order sets for the girls.

I'm happy to see no signs of fake hl so far, I get headaches from those so can usually tell.

Our bill size are usually anything from 3500-10k+ depending on how hard we are drinking. Also if u have partied with us, well let's just say that these are people who can fill up CEO room in yh with just any 3 of us.

Hardly post but thought I update all with a FR on Danshui, as there’s so much interest with this new Disneyland. Am a regular to CP/CA since 2007, and have partied in most of the common places mentioned in this forum - Bangkok, Jakarta, Ho Chi Minh and Phnom Penh. You can consider me like the thousands of lurkers in this forum that rarely “speak” out (don't know why I am in a good mood today and wanted to share).

Frustrated by what’s happening with Dongguan I begin to hook up with my contacts, which leads me to a local China agent who can arrange all – transportation, hotel, ktv…etc.
We (3 of us) went on Nov 5 to 8, arriving late on 5th in SZ airport via AirAsia from KL. Head straight to Danshui, which surprising took us only 1 hour, arriving at 10.30pm. RMB450 one way from SZ airport to Danshui, or RMB800 return (discount of RMB100).

Danshui

First impression of Danshui is it looks the same as many towns in China. However Danshui looks bigger than CP, and perhaps a smaller version of CA. For those who are used to CP, you will find that it’s not as convenient. You don’t find café’s (MU or 85), DVD shops, hair saloons or clean massage joints all within walking distance. There is a clean massage joint next to New Regent Hotel, but my advice is don’t bother as it’s nowhere near to Polozim standard.

If you take the time to explore Danshui town, they do have bigger shops – selling clothes, food and other stuff. But overall Danshui still gives me that “kampung” feel. Miss CP 

Hotels

We checked into New Regent hotel on the 1st night. New Regent is old but comfortable. Those who have experienced CP Eurasia, they will find this hotel disappointing. We are ok as we are used to staying at CP Peace Hotel (we like to be low profile and not bump to anyone we know).

Adjourned to New Legend on the 2nd day. New Legend is a nice 5 star hotel. Probably the best in Danshui. However I feel it still fall short of the luxury of CP Eurasia. Design and sitting sofa's at the lobby is basic. Anyway New Legend is the IN place now. Lots of Singaporean and Malaysians there. You can see (from their dressing) and hear (from their slangs). Mostly early to late 40s profile. On 6th Nov at around 4.30pm, I saw a busload of male Singaporeans (at least 40 of them) perhaps on a golf/incentive and plus plus trip If you are one of them and reading this FR now, I probably have taken a few pics of you guys (are u sweating profusely now?).

Room rates were RMB298 for New Regent, and RMB488 for New Legend (Block C). Would highly recommend the massage place on 7th floor New Legend, excellent foot massage and much better than Polozim in CP. Foot massage is RMB118 for 90 mins.

Food

There’s a HK style café in New Legend hotel – pretty good food and most importantly convenient. We had our dinner both nights there. A decent dinner in the HK café is around RMB200 for 4 persons. You probably won’t have much problems with food, as on 17th floor there's a high class Western restaurant.

Arranged a car on 7th Nov. to send us to a seafood place (Aotou I think) – about 25 minutes from Danshui for lunch. You can either buy the seafood from the wholesale market and ask the restaurant to cook or go straight to the restaurant and order from menu. We chose the less hassle option. A good seafood meal cost RMB555 for 5 of us. Can be cheaper, but our 1st trip anyway and many things to learn. Worth to kill off time, as all in it took us 2.5 hours from Legend hotel and back. RMB200 for a two-way trip plus the waiting time.

As we were late on 1st night, we ordered “KFC”. Heard there’s some operation during this period, you can’t view so they will send directly to your hotel. I can summarize that it’s utterly disappointing. Ratings of perhaps below 3 (except 1 girl). These are sauna girls. Benchmark to Virgin or MeiBao - it's like heaven and earth. My advice is don’t bother and save your bullets. We gave up after seeing around 8 girls. Price range is RMB650-850 (almost all says they are RMB850). You are supposed to be serviced for 2 hours, but she will tell you it's not safe now (only 1 of my friend took as his brain is flooded with s**rm and let her go after 30 mins).

We spend both nights (6th and 7th) in Legend Hotel Dynasty KTV. There are 3 floors in this KTV. 3rd floor is the most luxurious, as mentioned in earlier posts. My advice is if you are a big spender – RMB5K above, book the KTV room on this floor. Also found out that all KTV girls are housed there (the “river mouth” in Cantonese). I bet all the pretty ones are first being mirrored for patrons of 3rd floor. So go figure this out, how to catch the best fish! BTW they don't allow you to hang around at the corridors.

As there are only 3 of us and we are not big spenders, we are on 2nd floor – mixed KTV with some Taiwanese (actually better off as they were quite fun to party with). Worthwhile for you to understand how the "inner system" works. Each mummy, managers or agents have a fixed allocation of rooms each night. So you may not get the type of rooms you want or even no rooms if they run out of their quota. With this place growing in popularity day by day, I believe they will soon be trading/auctioning rooms to the highest bidder especially during Thursday, Friday and Saturday. It's like implementing GST in Malaysia, it will only drive up pricing. Welcome to the land of greed, $$ talks in China (well I may be over-simplifying as this can be anywhere if there are cunning businessman). If you know the most influencing person in Dynasty KTV, it helps.

Girls start to parade to the room at 7.30pm. Those who are used to flower street will need to kind of adjust to this. My ratings of the KTV girls are 5 to 6 - again my personal opinion. Benchmarking to Ouya or Yihao, Dynasty KTV is still a long way off in terms of quality. Occasionally there will be a few good ones (2 out of 40 viewed) but they may say not “available for the night”. So lower your expectations, you should be fine (if you are not the fussy type).

I brought sand to the beach, got my regular from CP to come over (I always play safe). My two other friends are easy-going-as-long-as-there's-pussy type. Our “strategy” has always be not to choose the prettiest. Turns out well, the service level is really good – they shower with you (not those who wrapped themselves with the towel, turn off the light, and hide under the comforters), BBBJ and have no problem staying the night. Most of them are new to Danshui (only a few weeks there), so they are not like the spoilt brats of CP, and quite eager to please. Will likely change over time as more punters flood this place.

On 7th Nov (Friday) the agent called, and asked us to be in KTV at 6.20pm. He said that the KTV operator wants to turn around the rooms, start earlier customer will leave around 10pm. They are learning fast – the Dongguan way! For those who wish to party here, do come soon as my prediction is this Disneyland will fast become very expensive and out of control for the layman.

Will I be back? Perhaps for another trip in January 2015, as I am the leader of a team of desperate friends from Singapore and Vietnam who have been starving the past 10 months. My personal view is there are other places (if you dare to explore) and perhaps not stick to "hottest" place mentioned in the Net and Wechat (although it's a viable option now). Check out Huizhou City, Shajin and Zhongshan.
