Learning to speak Thai can be good but it's a double edge sword. Thai girls will be more wary of you when they know that you can speak and understand Thai. To them you're a lau eng (eagle). I realised that when I was a BKK newbie many years ago I'd so much fun and girl lobangs when my Thai was sucky. As the years go by my Thai improved and I had lesser and lesser chance with girls. Dejavu happens once again in HCMC recently. I had so much fun with girls. Viet girls know I can't speak Viet. Usually they let their guard down and I can makan. Hahaha.
IMHO don't learn the language too much. You might think it can be an added advantage but... When you start to speak decent Thai. Haha that's it.
