Hello old friend!! Long time no see no hear. How's life back in s'pore ? I last heard you into some retail games business in sg ( correct me if i'm wrong). Nowadays i seldom post 'siam story' in the forums. Busy making money in my stocks. Now surfing more of my time in those sg stock forums. Loss S$28k in some stupid ipco company and only manage to recover some $6k back in Utac. Overall, still lose money. *&$#@% I've submitted my PR application since last Dec 2004 .Went for their PR interviews. Now waiting for the result. One good heart thai woman immigration officer, informed me that if 'no news come means good news'. Meaning to say if your interview failed, you will automatically receive a notice by post within 2 weeks from them. If your application is under consideration (80% chances), you will have to wait 3-6 mths for the GOOD NEWS to come to you. Presently ,looking for someone to buy my sg EA flat, got lobang or not. Thinking of transfer all my sg money over here in Thailand and setup one s'pore style coffeeshop.Maybe can sell some sg style laksa and chicken ice.haha !! I have shifted my house in bkk again(dunno you know or not). At the same time, changed my kids inter school to some where near my house. My own textile business is not so good due to 'no more quota's system since Jan 2005.China is sucking all the investments and orders from us.Hope my business can 'tong' till my kids enter into university then i will fully retire here in thailand. Will catch up with you for kopi session for my next sg trip. |

No one thought that the Chinese would love NASI LEMAK. But they did and making big bucks. After that, because make too much money the China partner eat up my fren's share. Sometimes its like that. Don't make money headache. Make money also headache. But its worth a try if you want go into food biz, but its not easy and a lot of hard work Call me when you come back next trip. Not sure whether you read your PM as you don't often surf here. Let''s use PM to talk Apologies to others cos I just happen to see my old friend. SC

Now i hijacked this thread and make it into a 'NASI LEMAK' topic.haha !! I think 'NASI LEMAK’ main favor is its 'chili '. If you knew the recipes on how to make the same type of sg nasi lemak chili paste. I tell you man, sure sell like 'hot cake' one in Thailand. Thai ppls like chili foods very much. The hot the better ! |

Coming back to this paragragh of your post, I would not agree totally with your views. And I also don't agree that the Thais will "open up" to a foreigner who can read and write Thai more than to those who could not. Thais or for that matter anyone, who opens up to another person, does not based that on the academic ability or whatever. Trust is a matter of the "heart" and "senses". Being able to read, write or speak Thai does not put a person at an advantage in getting trusted more than a person who could not. I don't read or write Thai, and my spoken Thai still have a lot to go before I can even converse fully in thai. Even before I can speak 10 Thai words, I can say I already have a good understanding of the Thai Culture and til today, I don't even converse with my wife in Thai. So does that put you in a better position to understand the Thais and their culture better than me?. I put myself in a position if I could read, write and speak Thai fluently like a Thai, I still cannot find any advantage it will put me into, be in in business, personal, or whatever. |

Though I seriously think knowing how to speak will give an advantage in business at the very least. Knowing how to speak when cheonging sometimes can aid and sometimes can even "turn off" the thais. Haiz, most important is as long as interested to learn then go learn. Not interested, put the book in front, everyday listen thai songs, watch thai tv, eat som tum, put thai people around, also cannot learn. SC

If you really wanted to understand thai cultures, you have to start with your 'mouth'. Not mouth-to-mouth hor!! A person who can't figure out the 'deliciously' of having a normal thai meal with only som tam pla la, pla duk(catfish) and kao neow( sticky rice) to go with. You do NOT even close to understand them at all. Know how to read and write thai are extra 'bonus' but not 'essential' at all. Know how to eat 'street foods' is more important than the above. Don't come to Thailand and only looking for 'spore foods'.haha !! |
