I was offered, yet to take up, still negotiating
Basic : US$8K
Allowance : US$1.2K
Housing allowance : RMB 20K
No 13 month bonus, but have a performance bonus of up to 25%
No more CPF contribution.
All above is taxable base on China tax policy

2 x return ticket for whole family(base on cost of ticket x 2 x nos of family members)
All expense paid for children education
Medical insurance
+ one off relocation allowance(2 months basic)

Now drawing S$10K+/month with 13 month(2 months) + performance bonus of up to 20%

Pretty attractive package for a PM but do look carefully into the minor details. If your co is not paying for the tax in china, then be prepared to see some of the income going to China govt. Secondly, you will be losing out on CPF contribution in SG, that's another loss for you.

On the bright side, your housing and children education is covered. Given the pros and cons, think about what this package will bring you in future ^^ On personal notes, welcome to SH!

Re: ShangHai Recommendation!

you can also check with the company HR, there are tax deductibles for expats which can help to lower your tax rate. but it depends largely on how flexible your HR is...

BTW, the packages for different industries varies by a large extent as well..

Perhaps, car with driver, depending on your position..

you can go www.shanghaiexpat.com to ask around..

Most of the companies here will part pay here.. ie pay you minimum RMB in order to report low tax, then rest will pay to your overseas account.
even your company pay to your oversea account also have to pay tax, i almost get into trouble last job because someone in the company report my oversea pay...

the current company no one know how much my total pay except the GM and CFO. but also provided HQ don't reverse charge my oversea pay to china account.. if not, i will in trouble again....

totally agree to what you say, sometime money can't be everything...

so we have to balance what we want and what can the new job bring us to the next level?

you did not state whether is a local or MNC.

sounds pretty attractive but beware of the contract period (probably 2-3 years). the one off relocation allowance means there is no back road for you to come back to Singapore (at least not with the same company). once the contract expires you may not enjoy the same benefits and may be forced to take up a "local" package. if in future you gonna pay for your own children education in Shanghai, then most of us would rather go back.

Singapore is no longer the home we used to know or lived in........

Its felt so much like foreign soil whenever I stepped into Singapore., no more homely feeling.

Re: ShangHai Recommendation!

I just arrive SH 2 weeks ago to live on a medium term basis. Having lived in Singapore for 10 years and in Brussels for 2.5 years prior to SH, I can rate Singapore as quite a good place to live with amenities, education and healthcare within reach if you earn a reasonable income.

On the balance there will be pluses and minuses anywhere you go; and it is up to you as an individual to work out for what is right for you and family. There are some battles worth fighting for and there are those that you need to concede.

Just my thoughts for now...
