On the bus back, Jane and Alex had a long talk.

They alighted and Alex walked Jane to her doorstep. Jane slid her arm around his as they walked back.

J: As you can see, I've had quite a few weirdos as boyfriends.

A: Yup. And you were intimate with them?

J: Never all the way.

A: That one just now didn't seem very pleased.

J: Yeah. Just ignore him. He's jealous. And childish.

A: Think he'll try anything funny?

J: I don't think so. He's quite cowardly.

They approached her house.

A: Jane. Get inside.

J: What why?

A: Now!

Up ahead some distance away, a group of platinum blonde gangster wannabes approached them menacingly.

Alex was itching for a fight.

J: No! Come in!

A: Stay there.

The four of them surrounded Alex.

W: Hi! 美女。

A: Trust me. You don't want to do this.

W: Now you scared? 给我打！

The four of them rushed him at once. Alex took out the first with a swift fist to his sternum, effectively winding him, sending him dropping to the ground catching his breath.

The second was stopped by his size 10 foot connecting onto the thigh of the punk. Any lower and it might have broke his knee. More centralised and there might be no fathers day for the guy.

J: Wilson stop it!

Wilson's remaining lackey managed to grab hold of Alex and restrained him in a full nelson.

W: Want to play with me right?

Alex tightened his abdominals in preparation. Wilson's balled fist went directly into Alex's stomach. Alex hardly flinched.

W: You think you tough??

He punched him again.

J: Alex!

Then Wilson went postal on Alex, raining blows all over his body and face.

Jane wondered why Alex was not fighting back.

By now, a crowd of curious onlookers comprising of maids and Jane's elderly neighbours had gathered. A rather burly man in his late twenties approached the group.

Man: Hey! What are you doing?

Wilson turned to face the man, taking out a flick-knife from his pocket.

W: Mind your own fucking business.

The man halted halfway in his approach. He turned around and retreated into his house.

Alex seized his chance, throwing his head back, breaking the nose of the guy holding on to him. Howling in pain, he immediately let Alex go. Alex turned and followed up with a swift side kick to the guy's abdomen. By now the other two thugs had regained their composure and approached Alex again. Wilson hid behind them, waving his flick knife menacingly.

Alex initially wanted to be a nice guy, but this has gotten too far. Now that weapons were involved, he had to show no mercy.

The first who approached him was met with a standing jump kick which connected directly with the side of his head knocking him out instantly.

The second approached more cautiously, throwing a punch which missed as Alex sidestepped him. He tried to sweep his legs out from under him while pushing him backwards but the had more balance than Alex expected. Instead of falling over, he merely stumbled backwards. In attempting to regain his balance, he grabbed Alex. Unfortunately for him, Alex was a little heavier than he expected and they both tumbled to the ground.

Alex tried to wriggle free but the guy held him in a vice-like grip. Through the corner of his eye, he saw Wilson approaching.

A: Shit.

Wilson was barely a few steps away, knife in hand. In one last desperate attempt to break free, Alex mustered all his strength. But his opponent was way too strong.

He was doomed.

and then jane shouted to wilson.. 放过他, 我们做爱吧!

hahaha just kidding. one of my favourite writer, nice story, awaiting the next installment

since the title of the story is love hate betrayal regret, i think jane will come to harm and then alex will regret for not having say i love u and piak her one time. haha just my guess.

Actually the themes of love, hate, betrayal and regret are continuously present, throughout the entire story, which is now only at his teens... perhaps I haven't been descriptive enough. Haha...

Alex did not feel like getting stabbed. Not today at least.

Wilson was fast approaching.

With one last almighty burst of strength, Alex rolled to the side, just as Wilson's flick knife came down.

Thankfully for the other guy, Wilson stopped short of stabbing him and stumbled over.

He quickly regained his balance and turned around, intending to seek out Alex and cut him up, but found himself staring at the bristle-end of a broom.

It was at times like this, that Jane was glad that her maid left the broom by the side of the gate.

She smacked him once straight in the face before flipping the broom around and jabbing him in the stomach.

It was at times like this that Jane never regretted watching all those wuxia flicks with her dad.

Momentarily stunned, Wilson quickly regained his composure.

W: 臭三巴！

He lunged forward.

A: Jane! Inside now!

Alex grabbed hold of Wilson and dragged him back. He spun around, slashing wildly.

Alex tried to block his swing but missed by a huge margin, the blade of the knife catching his left forearm.

J: Alex!!!

A: Stay there!

He ignored the blood oozing from the incision. Wilson came at him again.

Jane heard sirens in the background.

J: Wilson! Stop this nonsense before somebody gets hurt!

Wilson's remaining goon struggled to his feet.

Wilson rushed forward again, the flick knife, now stained with Alex's blood, in right hand.

It was now or never.

Alex focused on his movements. Just as Wilson swung his hand at shoulder level, apparently aiming for Alex's face, Alex grabbed his wrist with his both hands, and drove his knee into Wilson's gut. The knife fell out of his hand.

His left hand shifted to Wilson's forearm and he interlocked the fingers on his right with Wilson's, pushing it hard backwards.

A single scream pierced through the air and a sickening crack was heard.

Policeman: On the ground now! Hands behind your head!

Alex turned and found himself facing two cops with their guns drawn.

He let go of Wilson, who collapsed to the ground in a sorry heap, clutching his wrist.

Alex slowly got on his knees, and raised his hands above his head. The blood flowed from his hand, staining the shirt of his all-white uniform. He placed his hands behind his head.

The cop holstered his weapon and withdrew his handcuffs, approaching Alex slowly. The other cop attended to Wilson. Alex scanned the scene. The ambulance had arrived and the paramedics were attending to Wilson and his fallen goons.

He felt the cold steel snap against his left wrist as the cop cuffed him, bringing his hands down. The wound stung him slightly.

The other cops were now taking statements from the onlookers.

Out of nowhere, Wilson suddenly rushed up to him and planted a kick onto his ribs. Alex felt a sharp pain and liquid rising through his throat. He spat it out. The cops scrambled to restrain Wilson.

He felt his world spinning, and fell to his side.

J: Alex!!!!

Actually the police will not immediately handcuff anybody in a fight until questions had been asked and the real crime starter is recognized..

Yeah, and they will not resort of pulling their gun unless they felt threaten or the subject is holding a better weapon than their baton. But damn good story. Can't wait to know what will happen about how Jane feel towards Alex now.

Jane rushed out of the house.

J: Alex!

Cop: Mdm, please stay back.

J: Uncuff him! You've got the wrong guy!

Cop: But mdm, we saw him beating up the other guy.

J: He was defending himself and me from this guy!

W: Shut up bitch! Sir, she my girlfriend, this guy disturbing her so I try stop him. Then he take out knife.

J: What??

W: My friends can be witness.

Cop: Alright. I'll need all of you to come down.

J: You got to be kidding!

Jane saw the burly man walking over.

J: Uncle Jimmy! You saw what happened!

Jimmy: Jane, I'm not even 30. Please don't call me uncle.

He turned to the cops.

Jimmy: Look, I was jogging past when I saw the altercation.

Cop: You are?

Jimmy: Captain Jimmy Lee, SCDF.

He passed the cop his name card.

Cop: So you say you saw everything.

Jimmy: Yes.

Cop: I would appreciate it if you could come down to the station.

Jimmy: No problem.

J: Will you be letting him go?

Cop: No. He will be taken to the hospital and then we'll be taking his statement.

J: What??

Cop: Mdm, we have to follow procedure.

Jimmy: Can you at least uncuff him?

Cop: Ok.

Jimmy: And see that he gets some medical attention.

Jane rushed to Alex's side and cradled his head in her lap.

J: Alex, I'm so sorry.

Alex coughed.

A: Don't apologise for something that is not your fault.

The paramedic came over.

Paramedic: Sir can you sit up?

Alex tried but he could not. He started coughing out blood.

The paramedics transferred him to a trolley and wheeled him towards the ambulance.

J: Can I come along?

Paramedic: Sure. Get in.

Jane climbed in.

She took Alex's hand.

He opened his eyes.

A: Jane?

J: Yes?

A: Can you do something for me?

Jane's tears flowed.

J: Yes Alex. I'll do anything for you. Just say it.

A: Don't ever date guys like that again ok?

She smiled and squeezed his hand.

J: I won't.
