At the traffic light, a bus pulled up next to me. "New launch, near MRT, 10mins to shopping centre, schools". The advertisement struck a chord with my predicament. No la, cannot afford condo, but HDB, still possible. Keeping a low profile I made plans to look for resale HDB, after all housing is the best investment there is in SG, stable and returns are intangible.
Saturday morning came, I flipped to the classifieds, there were tonnes of advertisements, I also didn't know what to do, how to start. They all seemed alien to me.

"Near sch"

"Amenities, 5mins"

"MRT 2 bus stops away"

"No co-broke"

"High level"

"Unblocked view"

"Call Angel/benedict/chong/".. blah blah blah.

My head spun with all these terms. I thought getting my own place was supposed to be easy. why suddenly it seemed so tough and all these jargon is making my head spin?

After a few hours of fiddling and trying to understand the terms (via googling), I gave up. Text wasn't working for me, I prefer visuals, I don't know how to gauge what is a good unit or not without seeing it and don't want to waste my time viewing units incessantly.

Gave up and went out to buy lunch nearby. I didn't want to ask friends to introduce agents, or talk to colleagues about it. It seemed too early to talk about it and people will ask a lot of things. I'm single and so fast want to buy house. Did I shot gun? Am I getting married? Did I get an inheritance. Strike toto ah?

Walking walking, at J8 overhead bridge from the bus interchange MSCP, you know that's where housing agents all like to try to ask if you're looking for housing, ask you to buy condo for investment, all the fancy promises of good investments returns.

I was approached by Koon, an agent of ERA.




K(oon): Hi sir, new launch, are you keen? You can consider.

got: How much is it?

K: oh you see, it's near MRT, then also got NTUC, schools ...

Fucking hell, I ask how much you sell, so much koyok for fuck??? He went on and on and on, but failed to listen carefully to my questions. Frustrated, I retorted:




gog: If I want to buy HDB leh?

Visibly he got upset like I'm wasting his time. I guess dressed in sandals, singlet and short don't make a good impression on anybody. Koon tried to brush me off thinking I'm going to waste his time.




K: Sorry sir, today we're trying to sell the condo units, not HDB.

gog: Orh, then nevermind lor.

Crushing his name card and putting into my pocket, I started to walk away feeling agitated and condescending. I can't throw the crushed namecard on the floor for fear of NEA agents fining me money for littering.

As I entered the glass doors of J8 on level two, somebody called me from behind.

I turned around, there was this lady in a ERA shirt, and blue pants, in short heels holding brochures against her chest and hurrying to me.

U: Are you keen to get HDB, I can help.

Upset as I was, I wanted to walk away but for some reason, I stopped and looked at her.



U: Hi hi, I'm Bernice, I work with Koon, my division head, so sorry today we can't help you with HDB, but if you don't mind, I can help you source for one on my free time.

Bernice didn't look young, but certainly, didn't look old either. I didn't even think much her back then at first impression. Koon was younger in looks, but attitude wise, very far from being perfect. Bernice reached out her name card and I just accepted it without thinking much.




B(ernice): How can I address you?

gog: Can call me gog.

Respectfully and politely, she addressed me further.





B: Hi hi Mr gog, my contact is on the name card, feel free to call me anytime tonight onwards. I will do my best to assist you.

Without taking a second glance at Bernice, I just waved and walked off. I slid Bernice's name name card into my pocket and forgot all about it.

What? I am a gentleman, I'm buying a house, not looking for a girl to fuck, of course I treat Bernice with respect la! I didn't forget her of course, if i did... this story where to end? НАНАНА.

For some unknown reason, I added Bernice into my phonebook and dropped her a text. I didn't expect much since I was keen on a house but with that agent's attitude, I don't even know if he was getting her to trick me or anything. Not that I'm super rich, but I'm always wary of scams and cheating.

No reply. Oh well, I don't need to push it, I never liked to push for services or people to attend to my whims. Usually, just take it as not fated, or not my fortune to do something.
