Chitchat Minister Shan Will Lodge Police Report Against States Times Review For Defam
An honorable member of the Coffee Shop Has Just Posted the Following:
SINGAPORE: Law and Home Affairs Minister K Shanmugam on Saturday (Oct 22) said he will lodge a police report following allegations made against him by sociopolitical site States Times Review. In a Facebook post, Mr Shanmugam referred to an anonymous article by the States Times Review, which had reported on an Institute of Policy Studies’ (IPS) Forum that took place on Friday, claiming he had said that “Eurasians are considered Indians under the ‘Presidential candidacy law’”. “And it goes on to elaborate on what I had supposedly said, and suggests that I said this in response to Mr Bennett Theseira. And that ‘Indians outnumbered Eurasians 20 to 1 and that makes it difficult for (there to be) an Eurasian President’,” he added. The IPS forum was organised to discuss proposed reforms to the Elected Presidency System. Refuting claims in the report, Mr Shanmugam said he was “quite shocked at such outright falsehoods”. “All of this is completely false,” he wrote. “During my session which lasted 90 minutes, I said nothing of the sort attributed to me, about Eurasians.” “In fact I wasn’t asked about Eurasians at all, either by Mr Theseira or anyone else. And I made no comments at all about Eurasians. There was no question posed to me, relating to Eurasians, and there was no discussion on Eurasians.” The Minister added that apart from the allegations which are a “complete fabrication”, the article also contained a number of other things that were "supposedly discussed" during the forum, which were either completely untrue, or half-truths and misleading. http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/...g/3227268.html Click here to view the whole thread at www.sammyboy.com. |
