http://www.tremeritus.com/2015/08/19...-our-employee/ MediaCorp: Tan Lam Siong not our employee August 19th, 2015 | Author: Editorial Since Mr Tan Lam Siong’s announcement to the public that he will be contesting in Potong Pasir SMC as an independent candidate, many netizens have dug up details about him. For example, it was revealed that Mr Tan, as a talented singer, had participated in karaoke competitions: He has also acted in MediaCorp’s dramas and movies: Some netizens also written to TRE, saying that Mr Tan was no longer with MediaCorp. TRE then wrote to MediaCorp to ascertain his employment status with them. Since then, MediaCorp has replied saying that Mr Tan was never their employee: This is with regard to your email query.Tan Lam Siong worked on a number of our productions on a freelance basis. He is not a MediaCorp employee. Regards Winston Chong Brand & Communications DID : (65) 6350 3351 Fax : (65) 6251 5628 Website :www.mediacorp.com.sg 3 cornered fight in Potong Pasir Mr Tan, who lives in Tanah Merah, appears to be heading for a 3-cornered fight with PAP and SPP in Potong Pasir. Taking to the media recently, Mr Tan said his participation in the upcoming GE should not be seen as a face-off with Mrs Lina Chiam of SPP. “I don’t think it’s a personal battle between me and Mrs Chiam,” said Mr Tan. “I’m there because I think voters in Potong Pasir are entitled to an additional choice.” “People should not think I’m running against Lina Chiam. They should see all the candidates as fighting for the voters’ favour,” he said. He rejected the “underlying assumption” that a three-cornered fight would grant advantage to the PAP. “It could very well turn out to be the PAP losing more votes,” he declared. “If you have a two-cornered fight where people can’t see a better alternative, then of course you know where the votes will go.” “But if you have a better candidate in a multi-cornered fight, then I don’t think it is given the PAP will garner more votes. I hope to prove this assumption wrong this time.” Mr Tan seems to think that he is the better candidate that could capture votes from PAP supporters. “The people of Potong Pasir are more ready to accept me as an independent than that of any other constituency,” he said, pointing to how SPP chief Chiam See Tong served the ward for 27 years, of which three terms were as an independent. “Having walked Potong Pasir, I realise they have their own way of thinking. They’re more forthcoming in expressing political views. They’re very open to me about how they feel about current political choices, and they would like to see me offering myself as an alternative to what is available out there now,” Mr Tan added. Mr Tan was elected as secretary-general of NSP early this year but decided to leave only after 6 months. He said he is not afraid of the possibility of losing the $16,000 election deposit, should he fail to get at least 12.5 percent of the votes. “We need to look at our priorities and what’s more important,” he said. “There are some things you just have to do, even if it comes at a great cost. If it’s worth doing it, you do it.” Public enemy number one In the last GE, Mrs Chiam lost to PAP by only 114 votes. Many netizens are afraid that Mr Tan will swing more votes away from SPP’s side. TRE reader, Spencer Goh, wrote in to name Mr Tan as ‘Public Enemy Number One’. Mr Goh said, “There is absolutely no way Tan Lam Siong can win and the whole world knows this. This means the only objective of Tan is to split votes in favour of PAP. This therefore, confirms that Tan is either a mole or a complete imbecile. Either way, Tan is doing a huge disfavor to the residents of Potong Pasir by creating confusion and turmoil which can only give PAP the advantage.” “Please keep in mind that the results in Potong Pasir during 2011 GE was very very close,” he added. “Well, Tan Lam Siong will only make himself public enemy number one in the eyes of 40% of Singaporeans, the percentage of which will most probably go up after this GE. I don’t know what satisfactions Tan will get out of spoiling votes in Potong Pasir but whatever satisfactions he is getting, it will be worth the condemnation he will surely be receiving from Singaporeans here on.” Click here to view the whole thread at www.sammyboy.com. |
