Pasir Ris-Punggol residents want a better oppo party

Singapore is abuzz with talks of GE. Alternative parties are all raring up and have begun
doing their walkabouts in their choice of GRCs and SMCs.

Electorates are looking forward to a good fight this GE. The ground this GE
seems sweeter than the last. Most are hoping for a clean sweep of more than a
1/3 win.

Most constituents seem happy with the opposition parties contesting in their
precinct, all but one. Residents of Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC are very unhappy,
frustrated and angry at the choice of opposition party left to them: SDA.

SDA has been contesting in this constituency for the past two if not three
GEs. They had every opportunity in the past to prove that they have what it
takes to be the voice of the constituents, but each GE garnered a very dismal
result in percentage. From a pathetic 33% in 2006 to a 35.1% in 2011.

The ground was sweet in 2011 but is now even sweeter in 2015. The residents
of Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC want a better choice of an opposition party to contest,
one where there is hope and a higher chance of winning. One where they can send
a clear message to PAP that things have got to change and that the citizens have
lost all confidence in this government.

What they are looking for is a party who not only cares about the people but
one who is also able to voice theirs and Singaporeans’ concerns in Parliament.

One who has the credentials, ability, and credibility to look into macro issues
like national policies, real issues that is affecting the majority of citizens
and not just micro bread and butter issues. One who has the ability to one day
form an alternative government.

These are qualities the residents feel that SDA do not possess. One can’t
blame the residents. Just look at this video that has gone viral. Do you see
this man and his party being your MP, one who can formulate ideas on national
policies, push for policies in Parliament?

Some residents have even suggested that SDA try for an SMC instead and leave
the GRC to the bigger stronger parties who will definitely stand a better
chance.

According to an article by our MSM, SFP showed interest in Pasir Ris-Punggol
GRC. But since SDA refused to budge and step aside, other parties has no choice
but to back out, leaving SDA to fight with Teo Chee Hean and his team. A member
of SFP has acknowledged that many have written in, asking them to contest in
Pasir Ris-Punggol. Many are feeling frustrated, angry and despondent about the
situation. They feel this GE is be as good as a walkover like in Tanjong Pagar
in 2011.

What residents don’t understand is, SDA being an opposition party, who also
talks of wanting to see more alternative voices in Parliament to raise issues
for the people, wanting a change in government but yet is stubborn and insistent
in not letting stronger parties contest in their so-called ‘turf’. Why do they
insist on going head-on with a stronger PAP team when they know it will be a
losing battle for them? Why are they letting their egos stand in the way of a
possible win and a change for a better future for Singaporeans?

Residents have no confidence in SDA. They feel that they have been screwed
the last 10 years and they don’t wish to be screwed for another 5 years by SDA.
They have had enough. They want SDA to step down and a better, stronger party to
contest instead.

SDA could not even garner a 1% in the PEBE in 2013 and ended up losing their
deposit and yet is delusional enough to think that they will fare better and
even win a 6-man GRC. Residents has this to say to other opposition parties. If
SDA continues to insist on contesting, then the residents are calling on
opposition parties to contest in Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC, even if it will cause a
3-corner fight if this is the only way to send a message to SDA that they don’t
have what it takes to be politicians.

Thanks.

Carol
