Thumbs up Second person has died from dengue, this time in Ass Loon ward

An honorable member of the Coffee Shop Has Just Posted the Following:

SINGAPORE: A second person has died from dengue in Singapore this year. The patient lived at Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3.

He was a 60-year-old Singaporean, who was admitted to Tan Tock Seng Hospital on 5 June.

The patient suffered from fever, shortness of breath, vomiting and rashes on his left leg.

He was diagnosed with skin inflammation of the left leg and prescribed with antibiotics.

On 7 June, the man returned to the hospital due to weakness in his left leg and continuing fever and loss of appetite.

The hospital admitted him and he tested positive for dengue a day later.

His condition deteriorated and he was sent to the intensive care unit.

The patient died on Sunday.

The National Environment Agency has stepped up operations to destroy potential breeding sites at Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3, where the patient lived.

NEA said residents should fully cooperate with its inspectors conducting ground operations.

Although it is a non-cluster area, NEA urged residents to stay vigilant and protect themselves with repellent and clear any stagnant water in their homes and vicinity.

The first person to die from dengue this year was 20-year-old Ang Yong Han, a competitive pool player.

He died on 29 May and lived at Hougang Avenue 1.

The NEA and Health Ministry urge all Singaporeans to take appropriate precautions to prevent mosquito breeding.

Those who suspect they may have dengue should consult a doctor as early as possible and use mosquito repellents to reduce the risk of spreading the infection further.
