There was one with the 2.22% interest rate just last week when i put my money in it but i guess they were sold out, now there's only the 2.1% for 9 months left.

I didnt expect the promotion deal ends so fast.

2.22% is the highest interest rate i could find with a minimum deposit of at least S$20k (same amount as the 2.22% deal).

Hehehe...try HSBC,maybe even DBS's Digi Bank but currently there is no open promotion deal as yet. So gonna wait up a bit.

Since Excelso is able to "perform" the brewing (aka siphoning process) of Luwak coffee for their customer, next time i might just ask the Excelso staff in Batam to do the same for me,hehehe...

...so that i can have my own video recording of the process. Its 110k rupiah per small cup of Luwak coffee in the regular Excelso cafe i visited. Below Menu is from Excelso Batam, Harbour Bay.

It will be an experience.

Maybe i can start going around to ask my friends to buy me a cup of luwak coffee in Batam instead,hehehe...

The hotel does it for me. Even if they dont, laundry service is only a few thousand rupiah per kilo. So its seriously no hard work from my part.

There's a small laundry shop just round the corner when walking along Citywalk Mall, near Center point area.

I thought you have read that before, as a member of Formosa, they wash 2 to 3 pieces of laundry for their guest free,hehehe...the only trouble i have were on taking out of the curtain and later putting it back. Thank the housekeeping guys instead BUT not the manageress (i am referring to the female housekeeper). She rejected my cleaning once but the guys willingly took those curtain to wash it the next day (its manageress off day,hehehe..) and later help me hang back onto the windows.

Theres a catch at MBB. If not mistaken every 10K u need to dep 1K in ur saving account. And saving account gave u board rate which is peesai. So u place 50K in FD u also need to dep 5K in ur savings account and u cant withdraw it till ur FD mature.

Local banks like DBS/POSB is the worst and most conservative bank. Miserable FD rates. Normally i dont bother to look at their website.

As for Rup FD, can consider too. Cant get this type of rate elsewhere.

Yes you are rite, therefore although it is stated as 2.22% per annum but the fix deposit rate including taking into account the amount placed in the saving account with low interest rate,average out everything is actually about 2.05%.

But one good unique thing about Maybank is that it pay the customer upfront the interest on the next working day instead of wait one year later for a 12 month fix deposit. The interest obtained early can then be invested in other investments.

Maybank has recently transfer its business from Malayan Banking Berhad to Maybank Singapore Limited...So now no more call MBB but MSL...

MSL incorporated in Singapore got the potential to grow better. FD placed in Maybank is as safe as other local bank partly because Maybank is a member of the deposit insurance scheme and all deposits placed with Maybank is insured up to $75000. That means to say if bank become bankrupt, the money is still safe

A bit of sharing here since some people want to put some Rupiah in Indonesian Banks to enjoy the higher rate there.

Recently, Indonesian Central Bank has reduced its interest rate. So the banks will follow by lowering interest in fix deposits also. However, with lower interest rate, there will be more borrowings and economy activities will start to pick up. The value of Rupiah will drop though because people buy less rupiah and instead borrow more rupiah to drive the economy growth. With more rupiah in the market, value of rupiah inevitably drops in the long term, unless Indonesian businesses can overcome their lackluster economic performance and start earning money into Indonesia, invest in expansion of economic activities instead of hoarding their profits in foreign currencies in offshore banks. Old habits are hard to change though.

So the expectation is a lower rupiah and a lower fix deposit rate.

But then economists have been proven wrong sometimes, and I am from the old school, dunno much about the new technological driven sharing economy. Just want to share an older person perspective. Whatsapp new money involving ASEAN cross border shared payment apps maybe a game changer to Indonesian perennial problem with dropping value in rupiah.

But then Rupiah value is always dropping throughout the eternity years.

There must be a reason if interests are higher in some country than somewhere else, no?
Interests are higher because the risk is higher, and also the probability of depreciation vs. a strong currency or solid goods is higher.

Yes. Average @ 2.05% the highest paid FD rate in Sillypore. And also i am protected by SDIC. So long FD dont exceed 75K....should be ok.

Though is trsf to Spore, but does Maybank Spore still report to KL? Or separate entity altogether? Must be due to my past employment with FI. Used to call those names by abbr....like Maybank as MBB....United Malayan bkg corp as UMBC...

Another Msian bank i like is CIMB (S). Their savings account is giving us 1% for 1st 50k. Better than our peesai local banks saving...only 0.05%
