Bro SBX, I’ll be going back to another kampong (not in China) for an extended period over the CNY, and then travel from there to northern China late February till early March. I’ll most likely also stop over in DG/DS. But my plans do get change often, so let’s stay in touch. I’m planning to spend more time in China this year, and I’m sure we will catch up one of these days.

No worries, bro bigboobman. I prefer not to put private cell phone number on the forum, so have PM you the contacts I have. I don’t have too many contacts, and one of the main reasons is because I do use the service of a local agent. Many bros have asked why so since I’ve been coming to DS even before the agent set up shop in DS. Even though I stay at the same hotel for the past few years and I could book it myself at the rate less the agent’s commission, I still have the agent book it for me. The reason is simple – I’m buying insurance. He is a local guy I can call up to take care of any problem I may encounter – this is China and anything is possible, although luckily for me I never have to call his help to date. I do have my other business associates who could help, but I rather keep my personal life separate from business. At the end of the day, there is no free lunch and the agent needs to make his keep to stay in business. And of course, I get an update of the latest happenings and new places, etc whenever I come to town.

However, I do get contacts for friends who prefer to go later on their own without the agent's service. There is only one agent I know who is based in DS and that’s XGX. I know there have been negative comments about him in the sbf in the past, but then he is the only game in town. I’ve known him since XGX set up shop in DS about six years ago, so he provides a service that meets my expectation. My basic principle is simple: cheong hard but cheong safe!

Talking about insurance, I do know many bros who “forget” to buy travel insurance when they travel to China or other countries to cheong. I would humbly suggest never forget to buy it before you leave home, because the consequence of not buying one at very reasonable cost can be a very expensive lesson.

Hey, bro PF, I always believe in working hard but playing harder, to make sure I’m ahead. Otherwise, 太对不起自己了!

I heard 1 option from CA is to take a cab to Songgang and the bus station there have a direct bus to DS. The main bus station from CA also goes to HZ, then can take cab to DS. As there are buses that stops along the way and those faster ones that go thru the highway, it's best to ask experienced bros here. thanks

latest reports anybody?
I am also looking into most convenient way to go from DS to CP. Right now I think it may be to take a bus to SZ, then train to CP. If anybody knows a better or faster way please feel free to correct me.

I ever enquired at the long distance coach station at the flyover though never taken the trip.
The reply from the coach attendants is take the coach to Zhangmutou and then take the motorbike to CP as there is no direct coach to CP.

Going Shenzhen from DS is travelling in reverse direction to CP if you look at the map.

Yes. It looks like the best way is to charter a taxi at around 200rmb.

For any bros, I will be in DS for the first time Jan 9,10, anybody interested in sauna tour, please PM me!

For ErZi & me, as a general rule, we use private taxi for the CP-DS route if there are two or more of us since it makes economical sense. I am a cheap kampong Ah Pek.

But when traveling alone, we always travel via using the train from CP to Lowu and then by bus from Lowu to DS – two main reasons:
1. Cost (about 80yuan); and
2. The traveling time is actually not too bad because of the frequency for both the train and bus. However, the bus from Zhangmutou to DS is not a direct bus, but one that stops in three or four other towns, thus additional traveling time although it would cost less. The latest rumor on my recent visit is that the DS-ZMT now also stops at CP – can any other bro confirm?

Re: Danshui (DS) Recommendations

Paiseh – long time no visit to DS & sbf due to personal reasons. A friend has just told me that the officials have relocated the existing bus terminals, including the DS Bus Terminal (at the Interchange淡水立交桥车站),Huiyang Bus Terminal (diagonally opposite Walmart惠阳汽车总站), Paifang (near the entrance to DS Tollgate to ShenShan Highway排坊汽车站) and the temporary Flower Street Terminal (花街车站) to the spanking new “Huiyang Automotive Bus Passenger Terminal” (惠阳汽车客运总站) that was officially opened last October. This is Huizhou’s largest bus terminal, costing 100mnYuan and will consolidate all the buses going to/fro Huiyang, including DS.

At the moment, there are free shuttle buses from Flower Street (for buses to Lowu) for the 10mins ride, but not sure for how long. The buses will also for now drop passengers off near the Interchange on the return trip for the buses from SZ, but this is supposed to be only temporary. In future, the plan is to get on and get off at the main terminal, since the officials want these buses to bypass DS town center in what officials claim will decrease traffic jam. Officially, the public bus routes will be modified to allow easy access from DS town centre to the new terminal. There will be no change in the bus fares, but I am sure the fares will all go up during the lunar new year.

The followings are some photos from Chinese websites:

It is located on YongXing Road (永兴路) opposite ZhengWu (郑屋)

This was the original grand plan

The final product. Looks like they saved some cost, or did they?

Grand opening day on October 23, 2010

Nice open lobby – this was taken during the Grand opening before all the relocations and expected crowd – I wonder how it is now, with the lunar new year so close

Complete with chio-bu hostess at the Boarding gates.

Perhaps bros who visited DS recently can give an update for the above changes.

And many in CP didn't even know we were speaking English - yes, those were the good old days when we could pick up a MM from BBS at 3 or 4pm and she will be more than happy to spend the time with us till noon next day and more!

Also, my son and me used to frequent ChengJiang, also staying at CJ Hotel. There is a KTV that is almost directly across from the hotel that we frequent at 1-4-7 and we found some real gems, although many MMs will not go out too since the 100/nite they earn is a lot more than what they get at the factory.. But things are quite different when we last visited it a year ago. That KTV has changed management, and another two new ones we checked out have more MMs that do not go out and more scheming – maybe we need to find the right mummy.
LT, those were the days. On top of happily, genuinely enjoy spending time with you, they are not fussy and demand things. The gals will be so happy to go dinner, wash your utensils for you. I came across someone who even offered to do my laundry for me! those were the days...

[QUOTE=Huzige;5526383]With all the comments about increasing prices in CP, I am glad that ErZi and me decided to spend our Christmas Eve in DS. \QUOTE]

Bro what say you if we go from CA to DS? how long is the journey and possible to get a private car?

Thinking to skip CP next trip to 'test' others DG towns ... got quite good feedback in CA last week, and now putting it first on our radar, and to add on other places.

Re: Huizhou Recommendations

Just finished reading all 72 pages of fun filled and helpful information. Looks like HZ and DS is still not too popular with the normal commercialized crowd. Which in my perspective is ideal, since we can always go CP and CA for that.

Thinking of stopping by HZ some time in middle of May. Is Mayor SBX, Huzige or LT and EZ in town then? I know it is still many months ahead, so you guys don't know your plan yet. If you happened to be in town, maybe can show me around or advise some updated places. Would be much appreciated!

Hi bro, I am not the Mayor, just want to give brothers another place in china to cheong. Too bad i didn't go back HZ for 4 months liao, so my information may be out-dated. Will update the information when i go back HZ during CNY. I will be going to HZ again by end of April for 2 weeks. If our schedule meets, i can bring you around. HZ is not affected by canton fair.
