Ushered to a table for 2 in Fish & Co.

Next we placed made our orders.

Me: "Anything to your favour?"
June: "Hmmmm..shall we share?"

Me: "I pretty fine with that."
June: "Ok...let's order the platter for 2?"

Me: "Nice. Go ahead."
June: "Alright."


Next June summoned the waitress and placed the order.


Me: "Hmmm...you must be starved."
June: "Sort of.... After so much of running around settle the car."

Me: "Do you cook?"
June: "Yah...enjoy it. I can cook pretty well. I bake rather well too. Alot of friends said that my standard can open a pastry shop. Hahaha... Maybe if there is a chance, I might ventured out, run my own little business.

Me: " Well you should give it a try. I morally support you. hahaha. But dun get me to be your tester huh. Else I am going to put on weight!"
June: "Rest assure. I am a rather heathly person. I won't fatten you."

Me: " So what can you cook?"
June: "Me....I can cook chinese homecook food, western cuisine."

Me: "Wah...you husband must be lucky to have you such a good cook."
June: "....He seldom home for dinner."

Me: "Oohhh.....work late? Not in Singapore most of the time?
June: "He is only back like 10 plus. Hardly got to see him. Especially the daughter."

Me: "He must be working hard so that you guys can have a better life mah."
June: "Hope so. but most of the time he will spend time with friends drinking, playing mahjong in the weekend..............If only he can spend more time with the family. He has almost lost the entire childhood of our daughter. My daughter keep asking for Papa where? but now she just don't bother to ask."

Me: "Sorry to hear this. But have you guys have a good chat about this?'
June: "Tried but never improved. I just dont understand him now ever since he changed to this current job. Pays him quite well. Business travel quite ofter. Thought we can have a better life but it is just the opposite."

Me: "urrrrr........"


I was really lost of words at that time. She was like pouring all her woes to me. My conscience started playing with me. I wish I can just lend her my shoulder but I can't. It was like taking advantage of her at the low point. What I can do now was just look at her deep in the eyes, lending my entire attention and ears to her.


Me: "Perhaps you guys should maybe....hmmmm.....plan a family holidays? just get out of the country for a while, retreat to a nice cool place. Rebuild the relationship."

June: "If only he buys this idea. The last trip was 3 years ago and guess where we go?It was Msia, Genting Highland...... I am ok with any place but he just go there and gamble. Leaving me and my small baby girl in the room or the hotel roaming around. Pardon me...but the feeling was just terrible...."

Me: "Come...cheers!"

I purposely gave her a toss of our ice water in order to pause her from saying anymore. My hearts actually aches for her.


June: "Am I talking too much?"
Me: "My ears are listening... it's good to talk but not too excessive. hahaha. But don't get the wrong idea. I am not talking about you..."

June: "Yah lah...it's me lah. Treat you another toss. Cheers!"


June gave a reluctant smile. very bitter smile. I know down in her heart she was feeling lousy. So as not to spoilt her appetite, I crack some stupid joke to cheer her up.
