Doesn't look good - Gerrard has seldom played well against Scum and he seldom plays well upon returning from injury. I hope to be proven wrong!!

well certainly will be good for us, not just having the finance to sign players and also clear all the debts....but also having the funds and resolute to build the new stadium we need. its not that Anfield is bad, but we are earning alot less the some other clubs with the capacity limit and unable to expand the current site.

but will the Yanks sell??? i certainly hope and wish they would just take the DIC $$ and move on....

And yes Finnan has always be good for us, quietly doing his job. wish him all the best in his new club.

Re: Liverpool Fc Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

SHARELIVERPOOLFC GETS HEAVYWEIGHT BACKERS AT LIVERPOOL LIGHTHOUSE EVENT

Secretary of State for Culture, Media & Sport, Andy Burnham, endorsed the prospect of fans taking ownership of their clubs at a meeting to launch the next phase of ShareLiverpoolFC’s bid to takeover Liverpool FC.

The meeting took place before the second leg of Liverpool’s Champions League qualifier on Wednesday 27 August, at the Liverpool Lighthouse in Anfield with a high profile list of speakers, and was covered by local, national and international press, radio and TV.

The minister also joked how some of the players on the stage behind him had given him psychological scars as a teenager, with their regular beating of Everton.

Some of those former players, John Barnes, Phil Thompson and ShareLiverpoolFC board member, John Aldridge, spoke alongside the organisation’s founder member, Rogan Taylor.

John Barnes spoke up for the passion and commitment of those fans based all around the world, saying that he had met many himself in the far-east and elsewhere who were as committed as many kop regulars, even though they never had a chance to get to Anfield.
“We need to harness that support if this is going to succeed” he said, urging local fans to work in partnership with fans from around the world to make this dream a reality.

Paul Rice, who Chairs the Spirit of Shankly, and Nicky Allt (founder member of SOS) also spoke in favour of a change of regime at the club, in a show of solidarity amongst Liverpool FC supporters’ groups. Both appealed against apathy amongst supporters, and spoke of the direct benefits of fan empowerment of the club, and the responsibility the club has in the community. This is sadly lacking under the present ownership, but is at the heart of the ShareLiverpoolFC constitution. Paul also underlined the significance of the ‘local culture’ – and the local fans largely responsible for it – for the attraction LFC has for its worldwide fan base.

SLFC wholeheartedly agree. It’s the character that local fans (and the City too) have stamped on our club that is at the heart of its special place in the football world. he marketing men may call it ‘brand’ – but it really means ‘personality’ – and LFC’s distinctive identity is what we local fans have made it, especially over the past fifty years and more. It is a tightrope walk for such a great club to balance both the local & global demands upon it, but it should never forget where it all came from – if we ever lose our roots, we’ll wither and die.

Supporters took the opportunity to ask questions on how the concept will work in a Q&A session with the ShareLiverpoolFC board., with questions including “How was the decision to make shares £5000 each made?” and “How would transfers and the new stadium be funded?”

The meeting wrapped up in time for everyone to head off to the match – the Reds ultimately overcoming a difficult challenge. That’s exactly what ShareLiverpoolFC needs to do.

Re: Liverpool Fc Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

In my opinion, the Arab owners of Man City are very smart. Man City has a quite new and big stadium, built for the Commonwealth games and should be free to the club since the other big club, Man U, just built their new stadium a few years before the commonwealth games. This is based on my memory. If I remember wrongly, please let me know.

If the reported $200 million pounds needed to buy over Man City is correct, it is a cheap deal. Look at how the Yankees struggle to raise money to built a stadium for us. The Arabs can buy top players and still will spend lesser than the Yanks as they do not need to built a new stadium at a time like this (Credit Crunch, high raw material costs, falling US dollar).

I hope DIC comes in for us. I also hope ShareLiverpool gets at least 30% ownership. We will then have harmony... Fans on the side of the owners. Owners with $$$ to spend.

Re: Liverpool Fc Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

GERRARD DESPERATE FOR A LEAGUE TITLE

Steven Gerrard has admitted there is nothing he would like more in football than to lead Liverpool to the Barclays Premier League title.
While lifting the European Cup after the epic Champions League victory over AC Milan is his career highlight to date, the Reds skipper said winning the league would surpass that.

"The memories of Istanbul will go to the grave with me," said Gerrard. "There isn't a day goes by that I don't think about it, but I want more memories. I want to get on another open-top bus and see another million people on the streets of Liverpool, acclaiming the league title.

"The city will explode if we win the league, and I don't want it to happen when I'm retired. I'm 28 and realise the years are flying by. In November I'll have been a first-teamer for 10 years and yet it seems like I only made my debut two or three months ago, I've enjoyed it that much. I want from 28 to 35 to be even better, and I feel my best years are ahead of me.

"I don't want to retire and have just Istanbul and a couple of FA Cups to remember. It will be a disaster, personally, if I don't win the league here."

The Reds number eight believes there is a lot more to come from him and the team this season after admitting early performances have been below par.

"The performances so far haven't been that good, we're still only in second or third gear," he said. "A few of the lads haven't been 100 per cent and I've been nowhere near it myself.

"We played well in pre-season, but come the real deal we weren't at the level we wanted. The promising thing is that the results have been good."

hi guys. another reds supporter reporting here! next match against manure and Captain Marvellous declared he is not going to be fit for the match. Torres has a good chance of winning his race against fitness to feature in the match. I'm going for a 1 - 0 win with keane getting his first goal!

i hope they don't rush torres back for the manure match...the last time they did that for another crucial match, el nino aggravated the injury and was out for something like 3 matches..
