It's true about the PNP. Every available uniform cop has been assigned to election roster. From what I understand, only the investigators and skeletal station staff are left to deal with urgent police matters. So you are on your own if you encounter any trouble, do not expect any response or assistance from the police.

Goodbye to my helicopter trip. Arriving into Manila this friday and my hotel has arranged a limo service pickup from NAIA. Hopefully the journey to AC will not be so torturing.

Hmm.. I'm not sure if it needs to be roaming. I guess you just want to keep the number, and to keep the number you need to have load once every 3 months or so. I don't think it needs to be on roaming, you just need to have activity and money in the account. Maybe before the 3 months are up you should try loading a small amount.

It also depends on how you load your phone last - If you buy the scratch cards to load your phone, I noticed that it last longer and paying some kiosk to top up load. I had roaming on, but did not use it for 6 months and it still worked when I visited. I had about PHP 300+ balance.

For those who are looking to have a roaming number, as another brother said, it can be very costly. I learned the hard way, forgot to turn on roaming on before I left PI once, and actually called SMART to get it activated. Customer Service put me on hold for 30mins , cost me a fair bit in overseas call. but got my roaming on.

You will need the 16(I think) numbers on the sim card and call SMART in Philippines(PI) to get it turned on, alternatively you can ask a friend to call SMART customer service from PI, no need for the phone/sim card to be physically there.

There is also Chikka, a free (limited to 6 sms without reply per day). You can register you PI phone number there.

Hope this help the brothers who wants to keep in contact with the friends they met there.

you are correct in that regard, you don't need to have roaming to load / top up .. especially when you use online load / pasaload from LP

As long as you load every 6 months, it will not be de-activated .. fret not

During my early years in the Pi, I been through all the headache of forgetting to roam, load expiring, Sim expiring and whatever.
Nowadays I buy a Smart Buddy Sim and i register the Sim online under the Manage my Account section of www.smart.com.ph .
I can now monitor my load balance and activate roaming even when overseas. I even add my friends Sim into my Account when they have a habit of asking for load. So i know their load balance status. Without their knowledge.
I have digi Sim from Malaysia that i use to load my smart and globe Sim with txt TN 639289447778 to 2000.
Will share more of my Sim management when the queries comes up.
Now I am in province of Samar. Living a hermits life. Struggling with a very weak 3G signal to post this reply.

Travel in limo is better than chopper.

Just personal opinion.

Firstly cheaper, and also more time to relax and take in the surroundings (eg. farmland & cattle) before the real action starts in AC.

Tips for loading up your phone.

If you intend to load P300 or more to your phone, always insist on scratch card. By buying P300 or more, you will get free text. Sometimes the kiosk vendor are damn smart. When you buy load from them, they will just pasaload to you. By pasaload, you will not get any free text. They will then reload their phone using the scratch card and get free text for themselves.
