I was walking and carrying a 1kg birthday cake in the box. I was on the walkway when a cyclist came from behind without warning and cycled past me but not before hitting my cake and causing it to swing. It was a PRC middle age lady. Before I can recover, she rode away. Needless to say, one side of the cake was deformed. This was not the first time on that walkway which was busy with both cyclists and pedestrians.

Voting them out may not be a good suggestion.

Don't misunderstand me. I'm not a PAP supporter. But if you vote them out, are the oppositions capable of running a government?

The more ideal situation is for the oppositions to claim more seats so that the PAP won't have the majority and unable to automatically pass changes in Parliament.

My grandfather thought like you when he was young and PAP was only Opposition. But my grandfather's generation still gave PAP a chance to be government despite PAP having no government experience and no scholars in the past. The rest was history. PAP was good for 25 years but went downhill after that. The PAP Old Guards responsible for the good years are mostly dead and retired. You want to wait until you really unhappy and painful and then vote WP as government will be too late.

Everyone says WP as Opposition cannot manage Parliament, SMC and GRC when WP first started and won a seat. Now we know WP is not doing a bad job. WP like PAP is not perfect but is not terrible either. Since both parties are not perfect, it is a good idea to change government every 5-10-15 years to ensure no individual and cliques stay long enough to form networks and be too powerful to dislodge. This was the original idea of elections and democracy anyway which was to prevent any individuals and cliques stay long enough to form networks and build power.

Pros and Cons, a majority allows the gov to move with speed on key decisions, and prevent standoff like in the recent US fiscal cliff, but risks complacency...tough balancing act.

Even if Opposition holds 1/3 Parliament seats, it can only prevent changes to Constitution. It cannot stop Bills from passing. All along, the Constitution had been changed by PAP many times to suit its purpose. Bills are the same.

Former PAP MP said PAP can be scary and passed 13 Bills in a single day at Parliament. If the Bills produce negative impact on people's lives then government will tweak. This means some Bills were wrong and should never have been passed. Bills were never properly debated in Parliament as PAP had already decided to pass the Bills. Parliament just go through procedure of approval in a All PAP Parliament. These Bills are poor in quality as there was not enough Opposition to properly scrutinized the Bills.
