Re: Zika has arrived in Singapore
2 locally transmitted Zika cases in new Parry Avenue cluster: NEA
Published Jun 9, 2017, 7:37 pm SGT Lydia Lam SINGAPORE - Two locally transmitted Zika cases were confirmed at Parry Avenue, with the new cluster notified on Friday (June 9), the National Environment Agency said in a statement. Both cases involved residents in the area, and NEA has started vector control operations there. It will begin outreach efforts in Parry Avenue with grassroots volunteers, handing out Zika information leaflets and insect repellents to households. NEA urged residents and stakeholders to be vigilant and continue eliminating mosquito breeding habitats, and advised residents to apply repellent as a precaution. It also requested residents to allow officers to inspect or conduct indoor spraying of their homes. Most people infected with the Zika virus do not develop symptoms. This heightens the risk of a Zika resurgence, as it may take some time before a reintroduced Zika virus is detected. NEA advised the public to see a doctor if they are unwell, especially if they exhibit symptoms such as fever and a rash. While there, they should also inform their doctors of where they live and work. NEA said it had been conducting preventive inspections in the vicinity to detect and destroy any potential mosquito breeding habitats before the new cluster was notified. There could be asympomatic or mild, undiagnosed cases which could cause further transmission of the virus if there are mosquitoes in the vicinity. "With the presence of the Aedes mosquito vector here, everyone must therefore continue to maintain vigilance and play his part to prevent future localised transmission through eradicating mosquito breeding habitats in our neighbourhoods," said NEA. Those planning to go on vacation are also advised to mosquito-proof their homes before leaving with these measures: - Cover all toilet bowls in the home continue reading here : http://www.straitstimes.com/singapor...ue-cluster-nea Why don't NEA just destroy the Aedes mosquito population ? ![]()

Both cases involve residents in the vicinity. This new cluster was notified on Wednesday, and NEA has commenced vector control operations at the cluster area. And I suspect the zika cases are under-reported, hence the new cases and clusters appear to spring up sporadically.

26 Jul 2017 07:14PM (Updated: 26 Jul 2017 07:40PM) SINGAPORE: Three cases of locally transmitted Zika virus infection have been confirmed at Serangoon North Avenue 1, the National Environment Agency (NEA) said on Wednesday (Jul 26). All three cases are residents in the area, it added. NEA said it was notified of the cluster on Wednesday and has started vector control operations and outreach efforts at the cluster area. The agency said: "NEA has been conducting preventive inspections in the vicinity before the cluster at Serangoon North Avenue 1 was notified to detect and destroy any potential mosquito breeding habitats." It urged residents to maintain vigilance and continue to eliminate mosquito breeding habitats, as there could still be asymptomatic or mild, undiagnosed cases which might result in further transmission of the virus if there are mosquitoes in the vicinity. Serangoon North Avenue 1 residents 'concerned' after confirmed Zika cases
By Aqil Haziq Mahmud 27 Jul 2017 11:05PM (Updated: 27 Jul 2017 11:57PM) SINGAPORE: Residents living in the Serangoon North Avenue 1 area have expressed concerns after three new cases of locally transmitted Zika virus infection were confirmed there on Wednesday (Jul 27). The National Environment Agency (NEA) had urged residents in the area to remain vigilant and to continue eliminating mosquito breeding spots as there could still be mild, undiagnosed cases which might result in further transmission of the virus. Ms Catherine Lee, who had just picked her two-year-old daughter up from a childcare centre at Serangoon North Avenue 1, admitted that Zika is something “we cannot fully prevent”. “Since this area already has three cases, it’s not a waiting game anymore,” the 39-year-old homemaker told Channel NewsAsia. “Of course, we have to take some preventive measures for the kids.” Ms Lee said she applies insect repellent on her children to protect them from mosquitoes. “If they get fever, it’s better to take them to the doctor and not rely on prescription meds,” she added. “It’s not like last time, when you take fever or cough as a common illness. Now, you must be extra careful.” Before the new Zika cases were confirmed, Ms Lee said NEA officers also dropped by to check for mosquito breeding sites in her home. MASS FOGGING TO BE CONDUCTED: MP SYLVIA LIM Member of Parliament for Aljunied GRC Sylvia Lim told Channel NewsAsia that NEA, together with Aljunied-Hougang Town Council (AHTC), will conduct mass fogging “in the vicinity of the blocks with the reported cases” on Friday. Re: Zika has arrived in Singapore
Second Zika cluster reported at Serangoon North Avenue 1
04 Aug 2017 06:29PM (Updated: 04 Aug 2017 07:18PM) SINGAPORE: A second Zika cluster has been reported at Serangoon North Avenue 1, the National Environment Agency (NEA) said on Friday (Aug 4). There were four cases of the locally transmitted virus infection in this cluster, with all of them involving residents of blocks 109, 115 and 116, NEA added. The first Serangoon North Avenue 1 cluster, which was announced on Jul 26, comprised three cases made up of residents living in blocks 125, 126 and 127. Said the agency, more than 940 premises in the first cluster have been inspected since Thursday. Nine breeding habitats - six of which were in homes and three in common areas - were found and destroyed. NEA has since extended ongoing vector control operations in the vicinity to the new cluster, which was notified on Friday. NEA urged members of the public to take immediate steps to eliminate mosquito breeding habitats. It also requested that home owners allowed its officers to carry out inspections and indoor spraying. Should they feel unwell, members of the public are advised to seek medical attention, especially if they have symptoms like fever and rash. NEA said these individuals should also let their doctor know the locations of their residence and workplace.
