Re: All you need to know about Genital Herpes

Ladies & gentlemen,

If one has genital herpes, is medication necessary? Will the breakout goes off after sometime without medication?

One year ago I suffered from slight swollen of my penis head & felt a burning feeling during urination but my doc diagnosed as urethral infection.

Would appreciate your advice.

Re: All you need to know about Genital Herpes

yes..the outbreak will go off without medication, but i wouldnt say it is not necessary as it may make you feel better and shorten the "outbreak period" ...however it is good to find the cause of the breakout... Stress etc??

i would suggest if the outbreak is long and doesnt improve after a week or so.... take the medication.

also for the record UTI - urethral track infection is not Genital herpes.

Yep after sometime the outbreak will go away by itself. the prescribtion of medicine actually shortens the outbreak period. however, downside of medication is after awhile your body slowly grows immune to it.

what i recommend is control your diet and watch ur stress level to reduce the possibilities of an outbreak and less reliance on the medication acyclovir. Also, the length of the outbreak and the intensity of the pain will lessen over time. the MOST painful will be the 1st and 2nd outbreaks. Subsequently, it will get better and less frequent.

Re: All you need to know about Genital Herpes

i'm afraid i may be down with hsv2

the last girl i had sex with, a thai fl, was on the weekend before the last. the only other person i had sex with was more than a week before that, so i am pretty sure where i got it from

last tues i found 2 "pimples" on my dick. they were on the top part, near the base of the shaft at the pubic area. only discovered in the shower when i felt a painful itch on water contact. i was worried, but tried to sleep on it first

but about twenty four hours later, more itching followed on both sides, and when i got home, there were "pimples" on both sides as well, again near the base of the shaft at the pubic area

i have since gone to the dsc and I'm now waiting for the results for the swab test, to be out in about 2 weeks. but the doctor says it is most likely to be herpes from the symptoms. he told me that is it possible the "pimples" are only at the base of the shaft at the pubic area because even though i had sex with condom on, that area cannot be protected

even yesterday i still had 2 new lumps appearing on my scrotum near the other "pimples", and they look just like the others after about half a day

the thing is, even though some of the "pimples" had burst before, they don't look like the sores i've seen in all the pics. they just look like burst facial pimples, that's all. in fact right now those that haven't burst look like "ripe" pimples with the white "creamy" head. can herpes look like that?

the doctor at the dsc gave me banraxy lovir (aciclovir 200mg) and icm biotine (tetracycline 3%). they don't seem to be helping much

anyone can advise me more on this?

Re: All you need to know about Genital Herpes

more on the first two "pimples" in the center that appeared last tues. it has been a week since these showed up, but till now these round protruding lumps are still there, only a depression in the middle where it "burst". you know how facial pimples that are squeezed out before they are "ripe" look like? they look just like that. otherwise, no change at all within this one week they have been there

as for the ones on the sides, left side is one larger main protruding lump with two whitish "ripe pimple heads" on it, and right side is one larger main protruding lump with three whitish "ripe pimple heads" on it

can herpes look or behave like that?

and for the two new "pimples" that appeared yesterday, one is on the scrotum close to the "main" lump, and one is on the right underside of the base of the shaft, right in between the shaft and the scrotum

i have tried both betadine and tetracycline on these "pimples". betadine is liquid, so i apply a thin layer with cotton wool and leave it on, it will itch for a few minutes but after that the itch will be gone for hours. now i use tetracycline instead on advise of the dsc doctor, but after applying the cream i still feel slight itching every now and then. should i revert to betadine?

really feeling very lost, and i can't do anything more about it until the official results are out 2 weeks later

I have been warning people for years that condoms do not protect against Herpes (and warts). However, it seems most either ignore the warning or simply assume that it would never happen to them.

Refer to http://sbfsg.agency/showthr...ct#post1119808 which I posted in August last year in this very section of my forum!

The best advice I can offer now is to complete whatever course of medication you have been prescribed. There is still a possibility that the herpes may not be the cause so hang in there and wait for the swab results.

Not everyone has repeated outbreaks. Many have one outbreak and that's it. Hopefully, if herpes is the cause, you fall into that category.

Study shows herpes is common in suburban populations, with Denver up to 20 percent

According to a recent study of 36 primary care physician (PCP) offices in relatively affluent suburban areas of six U.S. cities, one in four people (25.5 percent) tested positive for the virus that causes genital herpes, despite the fact that only four percent of all those tested reported a history of the condition. As the study shows, genital herpes infection rates were high even among suburban, educated and mid to high income populations.

The results of this study were published in this month's issue of Sexually Transmitted Diseases. "Genital herpes continues to spread because very few people with the virus know they have it.

The prevalence statistics are important for both patients and doctors because they show that people of all backgrounds are at high risk for contracting genital herpes.

This is especially important because people can be contagious even when they do not have symptoms of infection," said Peter Leone, lead author of the study and an associate professor of medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. "The study should encourage everyone to practice safer sex, get tested, and if they are infected learn how to manage the disease."

The study took place at six randomly selected PCP offices in relatively affluent areas in each of six U.S. cities (Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver). At each office, approximately 150 people age 18-59 were randomly chosen to participate. All blood samples were sent to a central laboratory. A positive test result indicated they were infected with HSV-2, the virus that causes genital herpes (GH). All samples were analyzed using the Focus Technologies HerpeSelect(R) 2 ELISA IgG test designed specifically to detect HSV-2 antibodies in the blood. In total, 5,732 people were screened; of 5,452 people who provided an analyzable blood sample, 5,433 completed a questionnaire.

The final sample was 75 percent white, 14 percent African American, and 4 percent Hispanic. Eighty percent were employed full- or part-time, 74 percent had some college or higher education, 45 percent had a household income of $60,000 or higher, and 68 percent were married/living with their partner. The overall weighted HSV-2 seroprevalence was 25.5 percent -- that means 1 in 4 people tested positive for the virus that causes genital herpes. The seroprevalence ranged from 13.4 percent in the 18-29-year age group, to 25.2 percent (30-39 years), to 31.2 percent (40-49 years) and 28.0 percent (50-59 years). Seroprevalence among women (28.3 percent) was greater than that among men (22.0 percent), and was consistently higher across all age groups. Of the 1,387 people that tested positive for genital herpes, only 12 percent knew they were infected.

The study showed that employment status, marital status and income did not reduce the chances of having genital herpes. Those who were employed full- time had a prevalence of 26 percent, married individuals had a prevalence of 24 percent, those living with their partners had a prevalence of 26 percent, and those with household incomes of $60,000-$80,000 had a prevalence of 24 percent while those with incomes over $100,000 had a prevalence of 21 percent. Those with some college had a prevalence of 28 percent and college graduates had a prevalence of 21 percent. The study was sponsored by GlaxoSmithKline, one of the world's leading research-based pharmaceutical and health care companies.

In 1991, an estimated 1 in 5, or 45 million, Americans were infected with the virus that causes genital herpes. Experts estimate that up to 60 million Americans have the virus that causes genital herpes and the CDC estimates that approximately 1 million people are infected each year. However, as many as nine out of ten of those infected are unaware they have genital herpes and may only have experienced a mild initial outbreak without recognizing recurring symptoms of the disease. Symptoms of genital herpes may include painful or itchy clusters of blisters, bumps and rashes in the genital area, or on the thighs or buttocks.

Many people confuse genital herpes symptoms with other conditions such as urinary tract infections (UTIs), ingrown hair, jock itch, zipper burn, allergic reactions, vaginal infections, a cut or a scratch, or irritation from sexual intercourse or tight jeans. Though the disease is most contagious during an outbreak, it can also be contagious between outbreaks when no signs and symptoms are present. In fact, in clinical studies, the majority of people got genital herpes from a partner who knew they had genital herpes but reported no signs or symptoms at the time of recent sexual activity.

Let's hope this repost helps increase blood supply to the top head and reduce it to the bottom head.

Condoms do not protect against Herpes and Warts. This is because transmission can take place via parts of the genitals that are not covered by a condom.. eg the base of the shaft of the penis and the scrotum.

I have posted many messages to spread the word that condoms do NOT provide 100% protection against ALL STDs even if they do not break or tear.

Do a search for "Herpes" in the sexual health issues section. There is already loads of info there.

Re: All you need to know about Genital Herpes

thank you sam bro for your advise and optimism. i definitely hope for the best but have to be prepared for the worst

in the meantime an update, i've decided to stop applying the tetracycline cream, it doesn't seem to work and instead seems to make things worse. i'm trying now to keep the whole area as dry as possible, and after one day, here's my findings

top: still no changes at all on these two "burst pimples" that were the first to appear

left: the two "pimple heads" are gone, but merged as one large depression in the middle of the main protruding lump

right: the three "pimple heads" are still there, only they've turned yellowish. i'm not sure if this was caused by the tetracycline cream, since it can stain clothing as well

underside: the "pimple heads" are yellowish here as well. they came off when i dabbed on them with toilet paper yesterday morning, but strangely they are back, and since i had stopped applying tetracycline cream since yesterday morning it seems unlikely the yellowing was caused by it

surprisingly, without applying betadine or tetracycline, the itch and pain is quite minimal

herpes attack doesnt always come with pain.

do you have a sore sensation around that area? and are the pimples clustered and bubble like? you can actually stop applying tetracycline cream.. they help little..
