I have no knowledge about HCM practices. However let me do some calculation for you.

350,000 dong is equivalent to about SGD25.00

Currently the interest rate for dong is about 11% per annum for 1 month deposit. For your SGD10,000 deposit could fetch about $90 (abt 1,300,000 dong) interest a month.

Using the interest from the term deposit you could afford to rent a house/apartment/room up to 1,300,000 dong a month for her without losing your principle sum of SGD10,000 (depreciation of dong excluded)

Moreover it is much safer to put your money in the bank and earn your interest than to loan to someone which you have no knowledge and the possibility of not getting back your loan. You will end up like Ah Long chasing your hard-earn money.

I think it does not make sense for your bx to make such a stupid suggestion/proposal unless she has other plan for you.

Yes, I heard of this arrangement...but I am not convinced even though it is black and white...I did check with lawyer and say can be done...however, if the owner returns the money then you still have to shift house...no owner will want to sign an agreement that dun favour them...

Some owner are damn dirty...tell 1st tenant 100mil so he can get free loan...after that con 2nd tenant 200mil...give back 100mil and evict the first tenant...see how this is play...owner always win...

My experience was that I used to rent a flat but then after 6 months owner want to increase rent...so have to shift...then the new tenant move in stay one month and said got ghost move out and then flat empty for long time...

There are alot of possibilities on what can be done or what cannot be done ....

I can't really give u advice on that .... But I can give u examples for you to gaugue whether it's true or not ...

1. In HCMC a Unit (A Room + A Toilet) 5 mins away from airport and it's also like a walk-up apartment - To rent cost about SGD $250 - $300 with electicity .....

2. In BD a whole Unit (Hall, Room, Toilet , Kitchen) - To rent cost about SGD $150 with electricity

3. Barrck type Unit (One row with 4-5 units) and 1 unit of just 1 room and 1 toilet - To rent cost should be around SGD $100.

Like a wife's neighbour , she mortgaged her land to bank to loan $$$ to her. Once u repaid, you can do it again to loan $$$.

So I guessed the case u mentioned, the owner should be able to do that, but then if he is unable to settle the loaned $$$, subsequently you will have problem no matter what type of agreement you may have with the owner.

Hope u understand what i mean.

Anyway, my Bx said this method will be better as the $$ will still be there vs helping her to pay rent every mth. Shifting hse is not a concern for her family i think......she already moved like 5-6 times ever since i noe her which is 3-4yrs ago.

Every now and then, she will hint to me when will I buy a proper place for her family, like her biggest wishes is to let her family has a good hse etc. And everytime i will act blur and said i need to save $$ 1st hehe.

I think my actual concern is whether I should trust her in this. As a matter of fact, she did not gain my 100% trust yet. Just a gut feeling that some 1 is "teaching" her and she is just a messenger. Her "teacher" might be her family, frds i suspect.

Since i do not noe any vietnam frds nor any frds with vietnam experience, the valuable inputs by u bros are very much appreciated. Thks again.

how come the rental examples you cited are so cheap? are they the run down local type of accommodation? the rental i know of in hcmc are many many times more expensive

1. That's currently my friends playing for her GF unless he bluff lah ..

But this are not big house .... only a room that can put one quuen size bed, a wardrobe a small cabinet for tv and plus a toilet ...

she said: wait a while..i go up take my things & change..
i just nodded in silence...

my head was spinning with tonnes of questions..

me: why she came from hotel lobby?
me: wasnt she at her work place?
me: she told me b4 she never go out with clients after work ( i believed as i always send her home)
me: where did she go?
me: what did she do?

all these questions & doubts i had... i was exasperated..i was numbed...i didnt know what to think...i wanted to ask her but i did not know how to..

soon after , she came back down..with her handbag & she changed to normal clothes...she said: "lets go"..

i nodded and walked with her back to my car in silence.....what to do? should i ask her?

on the way back to her place in my car , i took a deep breath trying hard to keep my sanity...

me: hows work?
she: ok..busy..
me: tired?
she: ya..abit..
me: hungry?
she: no...

i could not control myself any longer..

me: why u came from outside? tot u at work..

throughout the journey back , we were both silent while i could not control tears started to roll down my cheeks..

soon , we reached her home , by now i was trying hard to fight back my tears..

she: i think we better stop...lets end it... dun come look for me..(in a firm tone)

totally agree on this. Bro shysaint, back from hcm and my butt is aching from the 3 hours plus bike ride. Really pain me to see my bx ride so long back. Going back to hcm was worse, it was raining heavily and the raindrops was like stones hitting me on my face. I going to learn bike in Singapore now.

guess everyone here can pretty guess what happened...

after that night , she did not go to work..she just spend time with me...
a week passed & she said she had to work but..
she told me she would not go out with customers , just sit with them..

I trust her but thought to myself , this cant go on...i thought about it a few nights & so i popped the golden question.."let's get married"...

she was surprised but she told me she need to inform her mum & her family...

well , i need to inform mine as well as i did not discuss it with my family as well....
