Re: Understanding Vietnamese Life Partner

In order to do this, I think the fundamental thing is that wifey needs to be educated herself.

My bx came with here with just a high school diploma. Luckily for me, she had the sense to see the costs of living here and I kept sharing with her the way to move forward in society, that is through education. I am happy to see that she is nearing the end of her Bachelor degree in Accountancy. Going through the process of studying herself, she values the opportunities and the importance of it. She has said that we should save money for kids education next time and should cut down unnecessary expenses.

Through this, when we have kids in the future, We already have a contract and understanding that our kids will have to be educated in the 2 main languages of Chinese and English. (I shot down the idea of her mum coming to take care of the kids)

What i want to share is that it takes a lot of patience and communication with them, planning a future with them with goals to achieve. Make ourselves different from the Vn man who just think of the present.

As for others who are fast to stamp me out, please read carefully what i wrote. Educating children is not as easy as most of us think it is. When our children get to P4 onwards, most of us cannot understand the syllabus at all. Maths is so different from what we has last time. So before you start to `stamp me out quickly', wait till your children reach upper primary, then you come tell me about it.

U meant "verbal agreement" instead of a "contract" right? Funny to hear couple having this type of contract.

If your kid is in SG and educates in SG then definitely he/she will pick up these 2 languages easier.

something stronger than a verbal agreement but not a contract in black and white.

in fact, I would want the kids to be able to converse in Vietnamese as well, who knows what economic opportunities Vn might present in the future

yo Hurricane88,
i believe in Buddhism, doing countless good deed can never over-ride bad karma in this lifetime.
The most is to balance only, coz that what i was told during one of buddhism class.

I think karma is not a 1-1 = 0 kinda thing. Impt thing is... do we practice right moral conduct after realising our error? Or do we continue to encourage others to find chicken... etc?

participation in sex forum is not bad karma because here you dun do bad things unless you purposely out to hurt others...SBF has been made in such you can do good deeds...is no longer just all about sex...but of course the karma is you may get lustful and do bad things...only Buddhism shall teach you to abstain from all the sex thingy...hey, i am doing NS for SBF leh...

if a person has done some bad things in the past or previous life...then more so he should try to do good deeds...charity is just one way to do good deeds...there are many other ways that dun need to involve money...example bring an anonymous old lady across the street if that is a busy street...or volunteer your time to help in old folks home...

fortunately you can accumulate enough good karma to over-ride the bad karma but all depends the type of bad deeds or accumulated bad karma...&&

help out your viet gf or relatives that you are involved is not doing good deeds...so only if you have no obligations helping to anonymous ppl then can consider good deeds and thus good karma...&&

Note - the above is purely IMHO...not to upset anyone...pls skip if you dun like to read...^^
This is interesting. No wonder my buddhist friend in his 40s is recently asking for lobang to help at a orphanage and adopt-a-child overseas (financially give money).

This year we will be identifying our 1st recipient for education scholarship for our small "Gift of Hope" group...also visiting child's grandmother to see if we can help pay for her monthly kidney dialysis cost...all these in Vietnam...

We will still donate to old folks home and orphanages around Vietnam,..

On behalf of our group...thank you donors...
