hey dude, from all ur previous postings,i notice that u actually has almost zero knowledge about Vietnam and Vietnamese culture.how did u actually marry a Vietnamese???

a piece of advice to u....in order for u to have a blissful marriage,i encourage u to go learn some simple Vietnamese and go find out more abt Vietnamese culture.marrying a Vietnamese gal is easy, but to maintain the marriage is not easy.

i do really hope that ur postings in future is mostly abt jovial things and blissful marriage.i think thats what other bros here also would like to see.
he post before that he know her through marriage agency

The only thing here is there are 800 plus pages for me to read!!!! I'm now only on the 10th page....wahahahaha!

I shall update my progress here...

Thanks bros !
Good luck on your venture, the only way to learn how to do business there is through their own people and also ppl like singvet who were there when TSN old airport was still around to serve international flight and vietnam dong/currency paper which look like old crumple newspaper like from the market that can use to wrap vegetable

still remember that time there is no plastic note like now and dong can be given in coin form, nowadays heard that their govertment no longer issue coin and u can hardly see ppl giving u coins

Re: Understanding Vietnamese Life Partner

Thanks for the encouragement bros...now at page 155....

I'm planning to go into F&B...exploring which areas to focus on...of course not stepping right into the action...will go there a few times to observe the market. Will work with a partner and seek the advise from the locals. Will hire a local to work for us as a manager.

Lots of risk involved of course...but no risk, no return. Reading forum is good for general knowledge, know the culture better from the eyes of sing and singviet...what to look out for etc...most impt is the connection and people that you know. If you know the right people, lower risk of failure.

Rental costs, labour costs etc in Spore very expensive...for example, one labour in Singapore, I can hire 5 to 6 person in Viet...so even if i fail (touch wood), it won't be to the extend of being bankrupt...or so I think.

Thanks bros...

Yes, labour is cheaper there in Vietnam. But its thru experience that tells you something about the quality of low wage there. I always tell my friend, they are cheap but they are only `worth that much'. Expectations of viet staff should be much lower than of staff in Singapore. For F & B, you got to expect much slower movement of waiter / waitress compare to Singapore, bad attitude towards customers etc. Rental wise, it will really depends on which province / city and district you are looking at, for example, rental in District 1 in HCMC is surely not far away from Singapore.

As for local partners and connections, its really difficult to know `big shots' when you are new in VN. The locals will bring you some low ranking police officer and tell you he's an important guy to bribe. The chances of them setting up a trap for you is also very high. So be very careful.

The next thing to note and to find out are the taste buds of vietnamese. Yes, its good to have a variety of food in a city, but how popular can your food and drinks be ? Taste buds of vietnamese are very different from Singaporeans. You got to serve food that they will want to eat daily or frequently, not food that they will walk in once in a bluemoon. You got to research more on the target group of customers and their spending habits.

Government policies and redtapes should also be pondered upon. It looks easy on paper to get business license, but when it comes to actual application, it may not be as simple as thought. Some foreign companies took more than 6 months to get a simple business license.

So do more research and find out more about the market. make more trips to VN. Good luck to you.

haha, and also not forget that pierce of white paper (airport tax) when u depart from there. On my first trip there,i buy something and the shop owner return me some change. Was shock when he give me few pierces of dirty(black in colour) and crumple paper.Looks like from rubbish bin.

Just like any typical sg ppl,i try to get rid of them but was given the same everywhere i buy things. So no choice just use as normal

During my recent trip back, saw their govertment build quite a few infastructure like concrete bridge for river and big drain for vechile, fix railing and fitting lamp post beside the river(but the longkang still smell terrible).Several tall apartment or office building been build or under construct and international brand set up shop over there.

Compare to the first time i went, beggers around (now still have but fewer),no branded good like LV and etc, vietnam have certainly improve quite a lot

After 10 yrs, Vietnam basic infrastructural still remains poor. Not much improvement while the Govt is not improving either.

Months ago, they were debating building another airport in HCMC which the current international airport is quite new compare to Hanoi airport that can be considered the worst capital airport in this region. Another debate was on building high speed rail from HCMC to Hanoi. Spending money unwisely....

if spending unwisely can create some job for their local,is still better than for them to spend unwisely that benefit their own pocket

They have more than enough to build to create more jobs. Will u spend millions to build 2 international airports in SG to create more jobs

Dun build for the sake of creating new building. Look at the very basic first then think of others. Hanoi airport is the basic they need to look into. A capital airport is the 1st impression for oversea travelers else SG govt will not spend millions in our airport and millions maintaining the road towards the airport.

Anyway, lets skip this topic... it is vietnamese wife, not smart or stupid govt.

i wont spend cos like what u say,tsn airport still new.what i mean is i rather they throw money to build infastructure like bridge for cars or motor to cross or build lamp post at riverside then feed those money for their own use.at least some people have job to do and earn a bit.

as what u mention, lets move on from this non vietnamese spouses topic

Re: Understanding Vietnamese Life Partner

Dear sifus of the Vietnam scene:

Recently I know of a Viet gal who is ill-treated by her Singaporean husband. She is currently on LTSVP.

Question is:

1) A viet holding LTSVP wants to seperate/divorce her husband because he is ill treating her. I presume that this LTSVP pass will immediately be cancelled once this is done and that she has to return to Vietnam immediately.

2) If after divorce, what are a chances of getting another LTSVP and/or PR if she re-marries another Singaporean? She has another Singaporean bf who intends to marry her after her divorce is official.

3) The implication of all these is that supposing she loves "life in Singapore better than in Vietnam", does it mean that she has to tolerate her husband ill treatment?
