Re: Understanding Vietnamese Life Partner

These few years, more and more vietnamese spouse in Singapore are taking up Singapore Citizenship. The viets treat taking up citizenship in foreign developed countries as something that brings them `several steps higher' than the local vietnamese.

if your vietnamese spouse has been a Singapore PR for past 2 years and is now eligible for Singapore Citizenship, will you want her to take up Singapore Citizenship?

Re: Understanding Vietnamese Life Partner

Regarding to bro Singviet's question on viet spouse taking up Singaporean citizenship, I guess it's very subjective. Personally, I feel that if I have a viet spouse, I would not want her to take up Sing Citizenship. Reason being, Singapore is becoming a difficult country for a local to stay in. More employment is created for foreigners instead of locals. I guess it would be nice to work hard now, then retire to another country which has a lower standard of living, in this case vietnam.

Why not let your spouse hold on to her Viet citizenship, and when it's time to retire, just slowly fade away to Vietnam? This is just a personal opinion. Same if your spouse is a Thai. I may be wrong and unpatriotic, but, society is forcing me to think this way. Singapore is China territory now. Might be annexed by them soon.

Bro, my era in HCMC and yr era is quite different. I am talking about 2002, 2003, 2004 . Those were the times when vietnamese were still quite backward. The real improvements in Vietnam came after 2005 , after they joined WTO. After they joined WTO, foreign investments poured in and more and more modern businesses came about. Cars started to flood the streets and huge modern cafe became more and more popular. When i first went VN, one of the only big cafe was WINDOWS 1 at D1. I am quite sure florist have improved a lot since 2005.

Re: Understanding Vietnamese Life Partner

yes. singapore is getting too expensive. But i do understand that viet kieus can get VISAs free if they wish to stay in Vietnam for periods longer than 1 month. The main problem is us. We will need to extend visa every 6 months there. Life in HCMC is more relaxed, slower pace of life. Don't need to open letter box to check for bills so often.. hahahah

indeed..seems some hv the same idea of 'retiring' (early even better) to more peaceful, less stressful, relatively cheaper places. In fact, I think one lives longer without those 'Sg hassles'. Not just VN, BKk, M'sia, CN are possible destinations...& go shopping, time for relaxing activities there too. This is one mid-long term goal huh..

Re: Understanding Vietnamese Life Partner

i can't seem to find any after marriage life articles on SG men marrying viet mail order brides. i'm actually quite keen going on one of those vietnam bride tour packages someday. Anyone here have any experiences on this to share ?

My concerns are as below:
i) is their motive weighted heavily on getting the PR status ? (afterwhich u might get dumped)
ii) do they usually stay faithful towards the husband and kids after marriage ?
iii) yearly provisions for their family in vietnam based on $SGD

been some time since i posted. imo, i would not want my spouse (if i marry my girl in the future) to take it up as i plan to migrate overseas after my retirement. living is sg is considered safe? but i guess it's just too costly. given the way it is now, the tougher yrs are yet to come.

anyway, just wanna check if i wanna bring my girl to sg, does she need to carry along any cash as in like a certain amount so that she can get through the customs with no hassles? it's her first trip overseas and she just made her passport last week.

Don't be naive and think that they marry you for your good looks. There is nothing wrong with us, Viet men. Some of us, back home in Vietnam, are just poor and with low wage earnings that can't provide for a spouse, so the women go looking elsewhere.

If you are charming, confident and with the riches then I am sure you got nothing to be afraid of.

Re: Understanding Vietnamese Life Partner

`Getting a better life abroad' is always the main concern on their mind. Of course, to get a good life abroad, they always hope to have a good foreigner husband that will dote on them and also their family. Like i always say, there's no fix sum of money that she has to give to her family back home. The main thing is how you control the amount being given to her to remit back to her family each month. Control the household expenses and control the wallet, don't let them control the money. If you let them control the money, you will see DOOM DAY very soon.

SingViet always give the best advice...really have to set the expectation right from the beginning otherwise it is a bottomless pit...

Never never let your Vn gal know how much you earn or have in your bank...like what SingViet said DOOMS DAY - T R O U B L E ..
