Therefore, IMHO, i believe that there are good and bad girls in every part of the world; so it just boil down to whether can we meet them or not ? A live example would be the wife of SingViet; as in she is willingly to listen to him and not keep sponsoring her family back home whenever they called for help.(understand that S'poreans also need to work hard to survive and that bringing-up a child with proper education in Singapore is not easier but expensive) Hope that bro SingViet wouldn't mind me quoting him as an example. Just my thoughts while reading through the thread.
I agree with bro Intel Ops that there are good and bad gals from any country in the world. The main thing is communication between you and your wife and how you convince her that the well being of her husband and children is most important. I took some time to achieve that but i am glad that no major argument broke out after my wife's thinking changed. Now we are happy and i can also understand clearly her position. I only send money to her parents a few times a year during festive season. And each time is not much. For example, i just sent a mere US$100 to her parents yesterday for TET (lunar new year). For bros who are willing to try, i am sure that your vietnamese spouse will appreciate

A few points to comment:

a) Agreed on the country wide issue - will shared some real life cases in the meet up (both Sg)

b) bro SViet - really patient indeed, it took a lot of willpower to maintain the sanity I suppose; and now hv to report CO on time - would it be a terrible feeling, after investing then get lots of restriction becos the partner knows all the happening around?

c) again, very good maneuvre - managed to send just affordable (and pleasant yet not painful) amount to VN. For the last 2 mths, giving/spending oredi goes up to few thousands for the rest it seems... (how cud VN-family spend that kind of amt - buy what - each a few new h/p? Personally I don't even spend so much within a period or lavishly here even Sg is high-cost deh.. all digging into past saving..? draining..dry..)

d) dunno whether after trying v.v.hard - the partner really do appreciate at all...those beautiful language espoused in emails, SMS - getting nothing out of it - yet - but bleeding at the piggy..(year of the pig indeed!) So far, hardly heard any thank-Q note on gifts/goods/CNY-stuff (do they not know how to reciprocrate with just a verbal TQ? Just take & smile?) -- only until one pops the question subtly...e.g. "How's the stuff we bought for bro...?"...

[Well, maybe we choose among the recommendations bro SViet has...hi..hi.. it's probably turn up better like the one he has...]

Re: Understanding Vietnamese Life Partner

bro, i am alright with any place. you guys decide. I can stay out la, but not after 2330hrs. Not that i am damm afraid of my wifey, but i feel its a form of respect as i know she doesn't like me to frequent night spots.

Let me relate another personal incident of mine. I remember i used to try to be as generous as possible to my in-laws side. When they ask for handphone, i will try to buy them. But i remember once, my sister-in-law wanted a new hp but i was quite tight that month. So i want to delay. She grumbled and grumbled and make it sound as if i owe her that hp. I was mad and from that day on, i decided to tighten finances to my in-laws side.

Don't act generous to them. If you are generous to them all the while and suddenly you are broke, they will be angry with you. try to tighen allowances to them from now on. if have extra, give them a bit can. If your spouse love you by the amount of money you give to her family, then you can forget about this lady. She loves your money, not you.

Yesterdary while chatting with my ba xa on yahoo msn, she asked me whether will i send money to her for CNY. This is the 1st time she ask me for money. So sad about it...always thought that she will never ask for money.

Too bad that i hardly meet my end needs here as well. Never agree to send her money. I am wondering if i have the money, will i agree to her...hhhmmm

But anyway it is a good practice to learn from bro SingViet... to give occasionally and not too much.

These gals are clever, especially working gals. they know that Singaporean man are very afriad of them asking money initially, so they wait for a while before asking. If any bros who have working gals gfs or ba xa and they don't ask for money, this is something i won't believe its just a matter of time

So the time have arrived for her to ask me the 'golden question' ha... Actually she never ask directly i.e "can you give me money for new year"
She asked "why i know she is in need money for renting house, buy motor and new year, but i never think of giving money to her, to help her out."

After months of sms/phonecalls/online chat.... this is really the 1st time she asked such question. I also somehow know that she is facing problems these days.
1) Parents shifted back to Mekong from HCM... she now stay in a rented house with 1 friend. $50/per each (she don't like to stay with younger and elder sister)
2) Recently younger sister sold her moto for money for disco and drug.... she now find money to replace moto before her father know... short of $500 after friend borrow her VND$15,000,000.
3) phone and internet expenses gone up after knowing me...

I still hope she don't cook up such stories to get money from me.... i will be going back to hcm in march to find out more things about her

Bro, if you marry a normal vietnamese gal, then you will be the sponsor for her PR. ICA normally will take a close look at your financial capabilities before granting your vietnamese spouse PR or just Long Term Social Visit Pass (LTSVP). If you have diploma and above and have been working in the same job for the past few years, then PR for your vietnamese spouse will not be much trouble. ICA will also want to take a look at your past 2 years income tax returns.

It was quite easy for my wife to get PR although she wasn't highly educated. My wife got PR within 4 months.

Totally agree bro. The ladies always like to wear thick gold chain to show to others that they have money. Other than gold chain, they also like diamond rings. No money but still want to show off
