The vietnamese have a lot of traditions and cultures that are passed down from China. But they still try their best to deny the linkage to Chinese culture

Chao anh trai SS08,

Sorry i took so long to get back to you on this....

The ao dai she chose the tailor herself. Basically i was quite hands-off on this matter, apart from giving her the 500k VND to buy the materials and the sewing.

But damn sian, i only got to see it as a picture on her handphone camera.... then after that she says i feed her too much so cannot see her in it.
Liews.

But damn nice la the look of it...i feel like getting her a paper umbrella to match her outfit... hehehe.

I can vouch for this statement too.

Once i was having dinner with a group of vietnamese students. They invited me over to their house for dinner.

When talking about traditions they do for Tet, i casually mentioned "Oh you guys follow how we chinese do it...."

And instantly all 8 of them were saying "No no no, it's a vietnamese thing!!". It was pretty funny... and from that point on i made a mental note not to mention anything about chinese during the dinner.

Is it true that they had this weird 'old-people' saying?

I bought roses for my gf and she said that she cant bring this home unless the roses were given to her at her house in the first place. Otherwise, we might break up.
Furthermore, I also bought some DFS perfume for her and she say she must 'pay' me otherwise we will break up. Yup, she did 'pay' me but only VND10,000. Haha.
Again, the same weird reason.

She explained that the elders in her family taught her that. Hmm their traditions/customs quite conservative and weird? At the same time, I also find this amusing.

Strangely enough, I heard the same 'perfume' story from my ba xa. We were out shopping one day and said she needed a new bottle of perfume, so I brought her to get a bottle and hence I heard the story. Oh well, saved me some cash anyway hehe...

Haven't heard the roses story yet though. They do seem to like roses an awful lot though.

Regarding the Vietnamese and their denial of anything Chinese...well... a thousand years of Chinese rule, plus the French taking over that.. is enough to make any nation defensive, neh?

A lunar calendar is a calendar that is based on cycles of the moon phase. Unless Vietnam view moon phasing is different from the rest of the world.
