I will think that there's a few ways to understand the culture of Vietnam, but i recommend these few:
(1) Stay in Vietnam for a long period of time...........mix with the locals and go to places where they go. To understand more, a minimum of a few years is required.
No chance to stay long period, but mix alot with my gf family and friends.. and only go places they go.

I will think that if you can understand their culture, u will better understand your gf's thinking. Singapore is different as we come from all parts of the world i.e. china, india , malaysia etc etc but vietnamese are a different lot, they hold much pride in their culture
During my 2yrs encountered wif viet gals (all are WL), one culture i come across from the viet gals r that they r fillial towards their parents.
they will do whatever their parents wanted them to do, majority r related to $$$$$.
Rule number 1: Never ever ever let a girl know your true income and money you have. Always bring home the same amount no matter how many pay rise you have.
Be the girl is g/f, FB, mistress, wife, mother or grandmother... she can know everything about us guy, but most important is not to let her know how much CASH we have.

I think we have to learn to accept that man are judged by many factors and one important factor is financial stability. You may not need to be very rich, but u need to be able to provide for your future family with a stable income. Many family break up because of financial problems and this happens all over the world. To a singaporean gal, a singaporean man who earns $2500 a month may seem low, but to a Vietnamese lady, that may be enuff to provide a stable life for her. So it really depends on perception. Love alone cannot survive, it needs bread to sustain. This may sound cruel, but its reality.

my classmate earn $1600 a month, enuff to support his viet wife and son. happy married for 5 years. in the perception of SG gal he is deem to be a beggar!!
Recently just check thru the viet bride match maker agency out of curiousity, the price hv been drop to the range of $4k to $6k. intially was abt $10k.
