The space rock - named “2004 BL86” - comes closest on January 26, and is expected to reach a point around 745,000 miles from the planet, roughly three times the distance to the Moon. It will be the closest any asteroid comes to earth until 2027, when the 1999 AN10 may approach as close as 19,000 miles.
