Injection on thumb? Did she tell you injection, or you guess? Thumb is one area to take small sample of blood for testing. The just prick with something similar to a corkboard pin then smear the drop of blood on a glass panel or some other container.
It might just be a pimple... if only one and does not look like a blister or open sore, then most likely a pimple.
Herpes usually appear as a number of blisters.
Treatment for herpes: Cream to apply if mild. Oral medicine if more serious. No permanent cure, but non-fatal normally. Herpes just go dormant and usually resurface for no apparent reason. Some say stress causes it to resurface.
