Thirty suspected call girls were nabbed in the budget hotel. — Picture by Hairul Anuar Abd RahimIT was a comical scene in downtown Johor Baru recently as a man took off in a huff after he realised that police were raiding the prostitution den he was in.
The incident took place at noon at a budget hotel near Jalan Wong Ah Fook. The man, in his mid-30s, tried to climb out of a window on the third floor of the building as the main entrance was guarded by policemen.
However, he was spotted and detained to aid investigations.
Vice, gambling and secret society investigation department commanding officer DSP Mohammad Abd Hamid said 30 local women and 35 foreign customers were detained in the raid.
Mohammad said police later conducted a raid at another budget hotel.
"Initial investigations show that sexual services were being offered between RM60 and RM100 at the budget hotels," he said.
He added that the suspected prostitutes had tried to flush condoms down the toilet bowl.
The prostitutes, aged between 22 and 35, were detained together with a woman in her 40s, who was believed to be the pimp.
Items seized during the raids included sex toys and cash amounting to RM12,000.
