The founder of Hill Street Fried Kway Teow, Ng Chang Siang, has died at the age of 71.

Ng passed away on Tuesday (15 May) morning, according to a Facebook post by his son Ng Yeow Kiat.

“As many of you know, he has been suffering from ALS for some time now. We are relieved that his passing was peaceful and painless,” he wrote. ALS, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, is a form of degenerative motor neuron disease.

Famous for its char kway teow, the late Ng’s stall made it to American celebrity chef’s Anthony Bourdain’s wishlist when he was planning his Singapore hawker-inspired Bourdain Market food hall in New York.

“Thank you Mr Ng, rest in peace and may the heavens above welcome you back with warm open arms.”
Sad news, used to be a big fan of the departed uncle Kway teow at Hill Street in the 90s before he shifted to bedok in 2000. At least his son is carrying on the great kway teow legacy of his dad.
