It makes no difference. So long as your cash is real, they will offer you their best rate.

Change your money in the country of destination. I tend to get better RM rates in KL and better Rps rates in Jakarta

Shop around in the malls such as Plaza Indonesia but usually I can get good rates at the airport money changers just after I clear customs. Right now, you should be looking for a bid/offer rate of around 1S$ to 9550Rps. Anything more will be a bonus.
