The girl's reaction is common, and I don't think its specific to Sg girls. Its a stretch by any imagination to equate cleaners, no matter how well mannered, with "class", which by itself is a very subjective and abstract concept. It's not being snobbish or dao, but its just a social norm and general perception.

I can pretty much guess that if you run this MSN convo by almost any girl from any country, even the educated PRCs in the Beijing and Shanghai, you might get the same reaction. Even guys may agree with her.
