Before Kassim set up his own PI firm, he was working in a government security agency. However, he did not like their bureaucratic methods of doing things and so he left.

Due to the pandemic, Kassim did not have much business over the past year and was unable to afford to maintain all his 6 staff. When he told his employees the news, they understood and all of them left his company, except for Chen. Nevertheless, they were still working as part timers for him.

After Simon signed the new contract yesterday, he had told Chen to begin trawling the internet for his subjects' information.

Similar to the previous time, Henry still did not have any social media account and there was virtually no information about him on the internet.

On the other hand, Kerene had 2 social media accounts. Kassim could see that she was working as a stewardess and was diligently posting photos of herself from around the world. However, since the pandemic started over a year ago, she had stopped updating her accounts.

Kassim instructed Chen to continue to search for more information about Kerene on the web while he contacted one of his ex-staff. The ex-employee told him that he was available to take up the project.

This morning, Shafik arrived at his office at 6.30am.

Normally, they did not need to start work so early but Simon had paid them good money for a week and Kassim had committed to get the results this time.

Kassim explained the details to Shafik and once he gave Shafik the temporary pass, Shafik rode down to the location of the subjects while Kassim drove his own car there.

Both of them reached Henry’s area around the same time about 7am.

Kassim took up a position in the opposite block’s void deck where he could see the subject’s unit before setting up his tiny video camera and pointing it at the unit.

Shafik sat at another block and made sure that he was able to spot Henry if he came down the stairs from his flat.

From their experiences, they were prepared for a long wait as they did not know when the subjects they were monitoring would leave the house.

Henry arrived at the ground floor but did not walk in the direction of the carpark and instead went towards the bus stop.

Shafik knew what to do. He left his bike and went after Henry immediately. He maintained a casual walking pace so that he would not catch Henry’s attention.

At the bus stop, he stood behind the pillars and continued to observe Henry.

When Henry reacted to a bus that was approaching the bus stop, Shafik made his move. He went to the front and raised his hand to flag the bus.

The bus stopped directly in front of him and Shafik boarded the bus first. He went all the way to the back and turned back to the front to look. As he had expected, Henry had also boarded the same bus.

Although there could be a chance that Henry might not take the same bus but based on his experience, this was a risk that Shafik had to take.

Another reason for boarding first was that Shafik would be at the back of the bus and when Henry alighted at any point in time, Shafik could get off and tail him without looking overly suspicious.

The bus's last stop was at the interchange and Shafik waited until Henry got off the bus before he followed him.

Henry went to the MRT station.

On the platform, Shafik waited 2 cabins away from Henry but made sure that his line of sight was not blocked and he was able to see Henry at all times.

Henry got off the train at Jurong East.

Although the information was nothing concrete, it made him curious.

Kassim had done his checks with the Marriage Ministry and found out that the couple had got married almost 3 years ago and when Lily told him that they had moved in around the same time, it confirmed his findings.

The neighbour said that ever since the pandemic started, Kerene had stopped flying and had been staying at home since. This also coincided with the time when Kerene stopped posting stuff on her social media account. Kassim still did not have proof but he suspected that she had lost her job.

On the other hand, on Tuesday, Shafik had already confirmed with the MEA manager from the mall that Henry had been working there for the past 16 months.

As such, this meant that Henry’s meagre $3k of salary was to support the both of them and from Kassim’s experience as a PI, this was the part that raised a red flag.

The couple had gotten married 3 year ago and had shifted into a new flat. Henry had resigned from his previous job about 6 months after they shifted in and Kerene had lost her job about 1 year later. Kassim told Simon all the information that he had found out till date. Then he told him about Kerene.

Initially, Chen had used Kerene's social media name to trawl the net. From there, he had followed some tagging of her friends, following their online trails that had anything related to Kerene.

It was a tough and tedious job and after almost 3 days, Chen eventually found something.

He had followed the trial of one of Kerene’s ex-stewardess colleagues and was somehow led to a photography forum.

There were photographers who were looking for models to photograph and models who were looking for jobs.

Chen had seen some photos of a model and suspected that she was Kerene. However her face was always covered up and he could not be sure. Using their image matching software to compare her social media photos with these photos, it showed an 80% match.

An old sofa sat against the wall on its right and a few red plastic chairs littered around the room.

The guy sat in his chair and gestured Simon to one of the plastic chairs.

Simon inhaled deeply before he replied

Simon: I checked the videos in my house…..

Simon took a sideway glance at the male officers. The 2nd male officer, who looked like a Sergeant, spoke.

MO2: the both of you have a look at the videos…..

The male officers stood around while Simon showed the female officers the videos. The one in the living room that showed Denis raping Miley and the other one which showed Simon’s reactions when he came back.

Once he had done so, the officers nodded to their leader.

MO2: we need to take these videos back for further investigations…..

Simon: sure…..

WO2: we also need to get her for a medical check….. Can you wake her?....

Simon went over to Miley and tried to wake her again.

Simon: baby…. Baby…. Wake up…..

The officers waited patiently as Simon continued trying to wake Miley. 5 minutes later, eventually she woke up drowsily.

When she saw the officers, she was shocked.

Miley: WHY?!..... WHO?!!..... HAR?!..... WHAT?!!!....

Simon: baby…. Calm down….. Calm down…..

Simon soothed her for a while and she settled down.

Miley: why are they here?.....

He held her hand.

Simon: erm…. Denis did something to you….. We need to bring you to the hospital….

She was stunned and the 2nd time in a few minutes, she shouted.

Miley: WHAT DID HE DO?!!!..... WHAT?!!!.... TELL ME!!!.....

Simon hugged her tightly.

Simon: baby… calm down… he raped you….. that’s why the police is here to help you…..

Upon hearing that, she began to cry. She blamed herself for being so drunk that she could not protect herself and did not know what had happened.

Despite Simon trying to calm her down, she continued weeping for the next 15 minutes.

The officers had waited patiently until then.

WO1: miss…. We need to bring you to the hospital to do some checks…..

Miley nodded weakly.

Miley: can….. Can I change first?.....

WO1: sure…. But do not bathe…..

Simon: I’ll go in with her…..

Simon brought her to the room to change and after they came out, they followed the police to the hospital and checks were done by the doctors.

2 hours later, with Simon’s continuous support, Miley had already accepted what had happened to her. They followed the police to the station and gave their statement.

By the time they returned home, it was already almost 7am in the morning.

After a long shower and completely mentally and physically exhausted, she slept on her bed and Simon slept beside her.



25 December (Saturday)

Miley did not really speak much when she woke up just after lunch and Simon accompanied her quietly. He knew what he had done was extremely selfish and unforgivable as he had hurt Miley but he could not think of anything else in order to exert his revenge on Denis. He decided that maybe one day he would confess to her but not at this point in time.

The police called Milet at about 4pm in the afternoon and required her to be at the Central police station.

Simon accompanied her there for statements and once it was done, she was allowed to leave.

At the entrance, both of them were surprised to see Erica. She was also stunned to see them.

Miley: aunt…. Did the police tell you that I am here?.....

Erica ignored the question and went straight to Simon.

Simon: why are you with my niece?!.....

Simon frowned. Although he was prepared to face the music with Miley’s family, this was not the best time. However, the current situation was something that he had to deal with.

Simon: I’m her boyfriend…..

He saw her hand coming up but he did not dodge and Erica’s palm landed squarely on his cheeks.

*SMACK*

Erica pulled Miley away from Simon and reprimanded her niece firmly.

Erica: Miley! Don’t let him con you!....

Miley broke free from her hand and went to stand beside Simon.

Miley: AUNT!!…. I’m old enough to make my decision….. And since you don’t want him any more, I will take him…..

Erica was fuming.

Erica: FINE!.... It’s your life…..

She stormed past the both of them and walked straight into the station.

Miley: baby…. Are you ok?

Simon nodded.

Simon: yes…. Thanks for standing up for me…..

26 December (Sunday)

Expectedly, Miley’s mum called her the next morning.

Her mum asked for Simon’s address and an hour later, she was sitting in their living room. The couple thought that she was here to console Miley about what Denis had done to her but it was not.

Mum: Simon, are you toying with my daughter…..

Miley: MUM!....

Simon put his hand on her thigh to assure her.

Simon: calm down….

He turned to her mum.

Simon: No… I’m not toying with her…. My feelings for Miley are true…

He went on to explain that they had been together for quite some time now and if he was toying with her, he would have already left her a long time back.

Finally after an hour, her mum was convinced.

Mum: ok…. Girl…. If you need anything, just come back home…. I’m always here for you….

She turned to Simon.

Mum: If I ever find that you are toying my daughter, I won’t let you off…..

As her mum did not speak about the assault case, they did not bring it up to her as they did not want her to worry.

She left after that.



10 Jan (Monday)

The year went by and Miley returned to school.

By now, she had already quietly accepted that the fact that Denis had raped her and there were times that she was needed at the Police station for further statement.

Simon also had to go to the Police station for his statements since he was also somewhat involved.


(1.5 years later)

The case dragged on for a year and a half before Denis was formally charged. By now, Miley had already graduated and had found a job.

During the court case, Erica was present at every hearing but she did not speak to the couple. When she was brought to the witness stand, she declared that she was in a relationship with Denis.

The couple was shocked by her revelation and it suddenly dawned on Simon about Denis’s motive to get Henry to trap him.

Simon suspected that Denis must have feelings for Erica since a long time back. He had got to know Erica first and only introduced her to Denis once they were in a relationship but when Simon did not get Erica into a threesome with them, this must have triggered Denis.

Simon recalled his conversation with Denis while they were on their balcony after the first incident when Miley was drunk and it seemed to confirm his suspicions.

So while Simon was in jail, Denis must have reached out to Erica to brainwash her. That was why she had divorced him and got into a relationship with Denis.

Aside from Erica’s relationship with Denis, more dirt came out during the cross-examination process.

Firstly, their past escapades of exchanging partners were discussed. Miley was shocked to hear that and had a huge quarrel with Simon when they were back at their place in the evening. Eventually, she forgave him since it all happened in the past.

Following up on the first point, Denis tried to present to the court that Simon was in cahoots with him and had encouraged him to fuck Miley. So he was only acting on the instructions from Simon.

Besides from the sharing of partners, Denis did not have any concrete proof of this defensive statement.

The time Simon had taken to buy the beers was acceptable as the nearest provision shop was under renovation and it appeared to have slipped his mind. Thus it was not suspicious that he had to walk in the other direction to make the purchase.

When he reached home, Simon’s reactions when he saw his videos about what Denis had done, showcased that Simon was devastated by the incident rather than showing that he was in cahoots with Denis.

As to why there were spy cameras in his house, the prosecutors noted that Simon had installed those cameras so that they would capture the couple having sex in their living room. Simon admitted that it was for his own pleasurable purposes. Of course, the police would be interested to take this up as a separate case with Simon since Miley had no idea about the cameras.

As such, based on all the evidence they had, the first counter-accusation by Denis was dismissed.

Next, there was the other contention point that Miley was awake and had given approval to Denis to fuck her.

The doctors and psychiatrists who had examined Miley, took turns to give their evidence.

With the amount of alcohol in her blood, the experts all agreed that Miley was so intoxicated that she had mistaken Denis for Simon during the time of intercourse.

Since she was not in a frame of mind to provide her consensus, it was considered as a forced entry.


(2 months later)

The case did not drag on for too long and Denis was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment and 15 strokes of the cane. Upon hearing that, Simon clenched his fists triumphantly.

The whole fiasco was finally settled.

After they left the building and went back to his bike, Simon suddenly dropped to one of his knees in front of Miley and took out a small box. He opened it and there was a diamond ring inside.

Simon: baby…. Do you want to marry me?.....

Miley was stunned for a moment.

Miley: I thought you would never have proposed to me…..

Simon: I was waiting for the sentence to be passed so that you don’t have to go through that any more…..

She took the ring from the box and wore it.

Miley: let’s get married....

Simon stood up and they hugged each other.

Since Simon was Erica’s ex-husband, the couple did not want to have any celebration and they managed to get a slot at the Registry of Marriage.

A few weeks later, Simon was called up to the police station for secretly filming Miley. However, since she was not going to press charges, he was let off with a warning.

3 months later, on their solemnization day, Miley’s mum, sister and both her grandparents were present. Only Erica was missing.

The next morning, the couple flew off to Maldives for their honeymoon.

Miley was laying beside Simon and sun tanning in their water villa when he spoke.

Simon: baby… I know that this has taken a while but I’ve something to confess…..

Miley sat up and so did he.

Simon: Actually, the incident with Denis…. I’m sorry but I was the one who caused it to happen…. I….

She placed a finger on his lips.

Miley: I know…..

He blinked.

Simon: what do you mean?.....

Miley: That time, when I came back from my mum’s place, you were not yourself….. I could feel an anger inside you….. Remember I asked you about it but you deny that there was anything wrong with you?

He nodded quietly.

Miley: ... and you didn’t update me if King Kong contacted you….. I suspected that your anger had something to do with the results….. So one day when you were bathing, I checked your phone and saw that King Kong had contacted you…..

Simon was shocked that she had done that. He had assumed that she had forgotten about King Kong since she had never asked him about it.

Miley: ..... the next day when you went out to work, I told you I was going to my mum’s place but I never did….. I went to look for King Kong…..

Simon: what?!....

Miley: yes…. I asked him what he had showed you…. Of course, he didn’t want to provide any details….

Simon: Did he do anything to you?!!....

Miley: I gave him a blowjob and he gave me the information I wanted…..

She ignored his comments.

Miley: You planned for this to happen, didn't you?....Also because I loved you and knew that you wanted revenge…. I didn’t want you to be bogged down by it for the rest of our life….. But I also need to be honest….. I have told myself that after the trial, if you did not propose to me within 3 months, I would have gone to the police to declare the truth….
