Aussie primary teacher appeals sacking over nude photos
SYDNEY - An AUSTRALIAN primary school teacher sacked for appearing nude with her husband in a magazine photo shoot intends to take legal action claiming unfair dismissal.

Media reports said parents at Lynne Tziolas's Sydney school had rallied around the 24-year-old, organising a petition demanding her reinstatement.

Ms Tziolas, who has taught five-to-six-year-olds at Narraweena Public School for the past two years, appeared in a photo spread in a sealed section of women's magazine Cleo with her husband Antonios this month.

She was dismissed last Friday over the article, in which she discussed details of her sex life, News Limited newspapers reported.

Ms Tziolas told the Manly Daily newspaper she was shocked at her sacking and would pursue an unfair dismissal claim.

'It was very tasteful and I need to make it known that in no way do I ever let my private life affect or influence the content I disseminate in the classroom,' she told the newspaper.

'I could understand if I was a high school teacher, but I'm a primary school teacher and this appeared in a women's adult magazine.' Parents from the school believed the popular teacher was wrongly dismissed and more than 40 had signed a petition supporting her, the newspaper reported.

'We believe she was wrongfully dismissed and we should have been consulted before a decision was made,' the petition reads. 'Ms. Tziolas is a great teacher who is very popular with students, staff and parents.' -- AFP

Actually, as a parent, I support the dismissal. As a teacher, her image should not be tarnished in any way in front of kids. Even though it is in a wrapped copy .. everybody knows such things inevitably end up in the hands of kids :)

If this so, what if you, as a parent, are similarly caught bonking your spouse with the fotos splashed in this forum...and the Garmen cums and takes away your child for adoption saying you are a bad influence on your kid? Me thinks the school has jumped the gun thinking parents will complain but instead they had supported her....showing how times have changed!!!

Even though it is in a wrapped copy .. everybody knows such things inevitably end up in the hands of kids :)

If it's wrapped up, it means it's "protected"...to be opened at one's risk.
If the kids should want to unwrap it and get hold of it, it's not the publisher's nor the teacher's fault. It's like the "no entry" sign... if you choose to enter, it's your fault should you be run down by a truck coming at you!

But I think there's more to this at the school. Imagine the publicity of this case...which will go to promote the school. Very well done indeed!:D

Teacher suspended for nude photo shoot

A Sydney primary school teacher suspended over a nude photo shoot in a women's magazine says she will fight to save her career.

Lynne Tziolas, 24, is launching legal action against the NSW Education Department to be reinstated to her position at Narraweena Public School.

Her students' families are also rallying in support, organising a petition for her to keep her job.

The Year 1 teacher and her husband Antonios Tziolas, 45, appear together in a sealed section of this month's Cleo magazine, discussing their relationship and sex life, alongside nine other couples.

Despite the fallout from the publication, the Tziolases say they stand by their actions and would do it again.

Mrs Tziolas, who has been a full-time temporary teacher for two years at the school in Sydney's northern beaches, was notified by letter last week that her employment had ended.

"The teacher's engagement has been ceased and the Department of Education and Training's Employee Performance and Conduct Branch is investigating," a department spokesman said in a statement.

The findings of that investigation could end Mrs Tziolas' short career as a teacher with the department.

"We have the power to do that," the spokesman told AAP when asked if such investigations could ban a teacher from the NSW public school system.

The department said Mrs Tziolas' suspension followed complaints from "several" parents at the school.

"Several Narraweena parents complained to the school about photographs and inappropriate sexual comments in a Cleo magazine article," the spokesman said.

Mr Tziolas disagrees.

"The photo shoot was perceived as a problem by some people in the community and the suspension came after one anonymous complaint by a concerned parent," Mr Tziolas, also a qualified teacher, said.

While Mrs Tziolas hopes she can return to her class, saying she misses her students, she fears she will never be allowed to teach at the school again.

"During the meeting in which I was handed this letter, it was pretty much made certain to me that my reinstatement at Narraweena would be very, very most certainly unlikely," she said.

"I'm a temporary teacher, which means they have the ability to dismiss me straight away without any recourse."

The couple agreed to the photo shoot after being approached by a friend who was unable to take part in the article.

"We got some beautiful, loving shots that we wanted for a keepsake and we were paid to do it," Mr Tziolas said.

"We were honest. Yes, we're both teachers. Yes, we have sex, and yes, we are loving and committed to each other.

"What we did we both stand by. We would do it again."

For any other job, you do the nude pics, no problems. But as a teacher, you are suppose to teach kids .... how can you teach them something and do another thing. Whether the pics is in good taste or not, the kids donno, they only know it is obscene ...

Whether it is wrapped or not, yes it is the buyer's duty to keep it from kids ... but this is not the point, the point is teachers has a duty to appear to practice what they teach regardless or whether they actually do it or not... when they do something like that, even if kids dont see it, words will go around that they have done it .... am sure as parents none of you want your kids to have a teacher they idolised posing nude, regardless of whether it is artistic or not .... kids wont know it is artistic, just that it is obscene ..

This is just like a policeman getting caught for stealing a 10cts gum .... should be fired ... its like <knowing the law and breaking it >

I humbly feel that there's nothing wrong...

my reasoning is like this... the photo (if you search the web, you can find it), shows the husband and wife hugging in a very loving manner. You cannot see any private parts. Neither was it suggestive of anything except 2 person loving each other (and they are married after all)...

Any kids should know that parents love each other and that their union is what created themselves.... there's nothing to hide... isn't it ? And there's nothing wrong..... the analogy between the policeman stealing is not correct. Unless you are implying that married couples loving each other is wrong...

even in school these days, they are taught sex education...

unless you are in the opinion that we should hide sex from their world.

now, if the photos were of those doing sex, porno style etc, then I agree they should be sack.....

Yo Bro A...as you have said it if the policeman's caught for stealing
then he as a law enforcer, the law he's breaking
then this is a wrong and bad thing
as for the teacher, it's no offence for nude posing
further more, it's done with her hubby outside her hours of teaching
and for a "controlled" magazine
I am guessing but me thinks she will win her case without even pleading
