Hi, can i check if there is compulsory contact tracing for the usual StDs e.g. Gonnorhea or chlamydia? Not HIV or AIDS case.

I read singapore law for contact tracing is specific to HIV and AIDs only. Anybody has experienced this?

I think if you go DSC at Kelantain Lane, there is no tracing, I may be wrong?

Contact tracing is the process of identifying relevant contacts of a person with an infectious disease and ensuring that they are aware of their exposure. For sexually transmitted infections (STIs), relevant contacts include those with whom the patient (index case) has had sex during infectious period.

HIV and AIDS is mandatory because it is a crime to knowingly have sex with another party when you have HIV. Once positive, they will ask for relevant details and contact tracing.

Most other STD and often not life threatening, is curable except for herpes. Even if you are tested positive, the doctor does not ask for contact tracing.

From what I know as in past practice (several years ago) the doctors who treated you for STD is duty bound to find out how you got infected. If it is from commercial sex... the Middleton Hospital nurse matron or house policeman (yes there is plainclothes policeman attached to Middleton in those days) will obtain the information of the WL (legal brothel) from you and forward to Antivice who will follow up with the brothel/okt. If it is from bargirl or nightclubs (FLs) they will also try to squeeze the info from you and the house policeman & matron will visit that bar or nightclub to find the sick FL. Is this considered as contact tracing?

That was the SOP back in the years gone by...... I wonder what is the current SOP nowadays?

Nowadays its called infectious disease act. While not explicitly called out about STD in general, the law is very prescriptive about AIDS and HIV. Notification / Contact tracing is mandatory by law for AIDS / HIV.

There is a short clause in it that says if the medical practitioner suspects that you have HIV or AIDS, he / she can invoke the clause of mandatory notification for testing, could potentially include your spouse. It has to be based on suspicion of AIDS / HIV.

The anonymous STD and HiV / AIDS testing centres seem to have some sort of immunity, but it is not clear to which clause of this infectious disease act. Anybody has more insights into this area?

Middleton Hospital was in middle road and specialised in infectious diseases but closed down after the CDC was opened in Tan Tock Seng Hospital. It's VD section became the DSC and moved to Kelantan Lane.

That means it was a long long time ago..... before I was even born :)

Have, not compulsory though. At DSC, after u received treatment, they may selectively send u to one of their counseller. Through him, he'll give u a card to fill if u know who u gotten the std from, in hope to stop the spread. u can don't fill, it's up to u.

if u filled the particulars of the person u got the STD from, that person can come down to DSC for treatment, carrot is treatment/med is free (can't remb which part is FOC).

Forgot to close up this thread.

Anyway, 2 years ago contracted gonorrhea from one of the WL in L1608, likely from BBBJ. Cant recall her name, but read the post that the girl went back shortly after (likely failed her test).

Went to a private clinic, based on the symptom the doctor requested for a test which confirmed that it was gonorrhea. Was given an injection and some medication, it cleared off within a day or two.

As to contact tracing, doctor asked whom did I have intercourse last - told him it was a friend. Doctor asked if I want to bring her over for check up, I said she has her regular doctor and would likely prefer to go there instead.

Case closed. I am still visiting that doctor today LOL.
