The NMP Scheme was introduced in 26 years ago in 1990 and despite the passage of time over a quarter of a century, it has proven to be a dud in the main. The only ones that seem to does something during their time as an NMP were Walter Woon, Siew Kum Hong and Laurence Lien.

The scheme was famous when Dr Tan Cheng Bock voted against the scheme when the PAP did not lift the whip and he was subsequently cautioned by his party.

The capitulation by the 3 NMPs over the Administration of Justice (Protection) Bill was not just another failure of the scheme. The fact that none of the 3 could explain themselves why they ended up voting for the bill after proposing 14 amendments. The reasons cited are insult to one's intelligence.

When Catherine Lim wrote 2 articles offering her views, she was challenged to enter the political space ad stand for elections. Some how NMPs need not do so.

Why spend money on people that seem to use it to further their own agendas an enhance their CVs. If it indeeds works, the Govt should have no issues citing examples and evidence how the NMP scheme actually benefitted the country.
